Question about Campbell Hausfeld WL6502 5-Hp 20-gallon Oiless Air Compressor

1 Answer

My oiless compressor will not discharge air when the hose is attached. air comes out in a burst then slows down to like breathing. simultaneously the pressure gauge goes to 0 until i disconnect the hose, then the gauge registers the normal pressure in the tank. I am lost as to what causes that, so i bought another hose and it did the same thing. Please help!!!

Your problem does not seem to lie with the compressor or the tank. You say you replaced the hose. Did you replace both the fittings, the male and the female, because that is where I would put your problem. The male and female connectors must be compatible and sometimes you get a male connector that is a bit shorter and does not quite open the discharge valve in the female coupling. On some couplings, if you push the hose connector into the female connector it will open the valve a bit more and should then give you a normal discharge. But check that the two parts of the coupling are the same type and preferably the same make.

Refigerator runs but does not cool

Hello, Make sure that the area around the compressor is clean. Remove all dirt dust and debris from compressor area as well and under the front of the fridge using a vacuum cleaner hose and brush attachment. If the fridge cannot "breathe", it will not blow cold air. Hope this helps.

Air compressor slow to build pressure, and noisy.

All large air compressors are very noisy.

How long it takes to come up to pressure depends on the size of the compressor piston(s), how fast they are running and the size of the air tank attached to it. (and if the tank or hoses have leaks)
A 20 gallon tank could easily take 10 minutes to get all the way up to 120 psi. 120 is very high, and probably the limit for the compressor. Depending on what you're using it for, try dropping the setting to say 80-90psi.

My ssl5l compressor builds pressure real slow now. Rings or Valves? it did get a little warm while sandblasting lately....

Very rare to have problems with rings. Blow-by would produce high pulsating pressure in the crankcase causing oil to blow out the oil filler plug/ dipstick. If normal crank pressure, suspect problem with valves or gaskets. Remove air filter cover and check for air blowing out of intake or very hot head or air discharge tube. Leaking valves or blown gasket will cause low volume/ low pressure and hot discharge air. Remove the in-tank checkvalve and look for carbon deposits /debris build-up. If the checkvalve and the interior or discharge hose are coated with oil deposits /carbon, most likely problem is valve plate/ gaskets /head. Good luck with your repair.

The system refrigerant charge was most likely low but not empty, so you would get a burst of pressure and oil, the oil that lubricates the AC compressor circulates with the refrigerant. Does this make sense?
