Question about Frigidaire FRS26R4A Side by Side Refrigerator

Freezer not working

I woke up to water dripping from the ice maker. Everything was semi -defrosted. I emptied all of the ice and it now seems to be chilling again, but the refrigerator side now seems to be a bit warmer - not much. Could it be that there was too much ice in the ice maker?
Please advise...

I have the same problem with my Frigidaire GLRS263ZDB5 side by side. My freezer side is defrosting, we unplugged it for a few hours and plugged it back in and everything was fine for about 2 weeks, then it did the same thing again. If anyone knows what the problem is please advise.

Sounds like a defrost problem or a plugged drain... to get it to work temporary defrost the freezer. Unplug the refrigerator, open the door and get a blow dryer and warm up the freezer. wait until the water stop dripping out or about 12 to 24 hours and then you can plug it back in . it will work for 2 to 3 weeks.

To unplug the drain.defrost the freezer .remove the back cover. Use a pipe cleaner to clear the drain. pour a few cups of hot water down the drain.

The defrost systems is:
HEATER-DEFROST
THERMOSTAT-DEFROST
Adaptive defrost control
Start with the adaptive defrost control board. The fresh food section light switch and light bulb must work. To initiate a defrost cycle, open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds. The compressor and fans should shut off and the defrost heater should come on. Open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds to remove the refrigerator from the defrost mode and back into a cooling mode.
Frigidaire - referance model FSC23F7DSB3
This product comes equipped with an Adaptive Defrost Control (ADC). To activate manual defrost, press and hold the Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. A d in the freezer temperature window and F in the refrigerator temperature window will display when the heater is activated. To deactivate manual defrost, press and hold Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. d and F will be displayed until the defrost cycle is complete. (approx. 8 minutes)

Heater / Thermostat
You will have to remove the back panel of the freezer to check the heater for and thermostat for continuity. Heater are the lease likely part to go bad... I always change thermostat and timers together.
let me know if this helps or we can chat if you need more help.

Whirlpool refrigerator #ER2CHMXPL02 I think I have two separate problems. 1st one is a water leak that fills the bottom bins daily! The freezer does not seem to be defrosting, everything in there looks...

Could be that the freezer is too full with foodstuff and there is no air circulation, therefor, some places in the freezer build ice. The defroster is working and melting the ice that drips to the bottom bins.
I suggest you remove everything from the freezer. unplug the frigde. Let all ice build ups melt. Remove ice from the foodstuff and put back in. Make sure that vents in the freezer and fridge are not blocked.

Ice is melting in the ice container.

Step 1:

You could have one of several problems with this unit. Do you have heavy frost on the back wall of the freezer? If you do then you have a defrost problem. You might need to replace the defrost t-stat on the evaporator.

Step 2:

If that is not the problem then you might have a dirty condenser. Check the dividing wall between the refrigerator and freezer, is it hot? If so, clean your condenser and make sure the fan in the back is running.

Step 3:

If that is not the problem then you might have a water supply issue. Are the ice cubes hollow? It might be just a water filter that needs to be replaced. Your ice maker might be dripping water as well, if you see ice cycles hanging from the ice maker then the ice maker needs to be replaced.

Step 4:

The worst would be a freon leak... To check this remove the evaporator cover in the freezer and look at your frost pattern on the evaporator.
Good frost:
3_25_2013_4_24_37_am.jpg

That is a normal frost pattern on an evaporator and everything is good.

Bad frost:
3_25_2013_4_26_09_am.gif

That shows a freon leak and you would need to call a qualified professional to complete this repair. This can get expensive so think if it might just be better to replace the unit.

Good Luck!

Hello there,
When your refrigerator begins to have ice at the back, it is known as ice build up. There is no leakage anywhere, it is just that there is a component or the other that is being faulty inside the unit of the refrigerator. The defrost unit is where the problem is from.
The defrost process is done automatically and the process involves the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and the defrost timer. Once one of them or more becomes faulty, ice will begin to form at the back of the refrigerator.
You will have to test the defrost timer, defrost heater and defrost thermostat in order for you to be able to tell which is faulty and need to be replaced.
You can go through these tips if you intend to fix this yourself. I had the power out on my refrig for about 8 hours. Now the ice maker has stopped making ice. Water in the door works, but no water going to the ice maker and not dropping ice. Do I need to defrost the...

There is a dual acting water valve that feeds the ice maker and door water seperately.
If your power went out - chances are good the solenoid on the icemaker side of the valve has failed - so it will not open the valve on the demand of the icemaker timer.
To find out - you will need to check that there is voltage at the valve.

With a model #, I can help you better.

Thanks!!

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

Water will not flow into ice maker

This has happened to me a couple of times. First check to see if water is dripping from the water line on the back of the freezer. If it is that means ice has formed at the intake on the back of the ice maker and isn't allowing water to get in. Pull everything out and defrost the freezer for 3 - 4 hours. Make sure you dry everything out before putting the food back in.

Water dripping from top of fridge then freezing under crisper's

If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me

Water Freezing in bottom of Freezer and dripping out front of freezer door

this could either be a blocked drain from the freezer not allowing defrost water to escape or the defrost heater failing to turn on due to a faulty defrost heater or defrost timer not enabling the water to escape
