Question about Cisco AP 541N (ap541nak9) Pre80211n Wireless Access Point

Open Question

Our Cisco AP 541N Wireless routers keep losing the ability to let people access them. We have several of these boxes placedaround our site, but we do not use any other cisco setup - so no central ACS to configure the boxes from a central location. The SSID for all the boxes is the same as is the password. When this happens you can still see the SSID by searching, but you will not be able to use the password to log in. The connection will sit there telling you it is negoitating but will not complete. This behavour is got round by restarting the box nearest the user in question.

SOURCE: configure cisco aironet wifi

if ur using IOS autonomous AP, then u'll need to configure the bvi interface to get an ip address and then enable the interface. once it has an ip, u'll need to configure the ssid, vlan, etc - choices include doing so with the CLI or web page GUI. U'll need to enable the built-in web server then u can access it via the web interface to setup the ssid, any vlans, radius, etc. good luck.

SOURCE: Cisco 1242ag broadcast multi SSID issue

It stops broadcasting the SSID? Make sure it's configured to broadcast the SSID firstly... secondly, test whether it is actually working but just not broadcasting the SSID.

Set a client PC to the same SSID and get all the parameters identical (encryption, user/pass etc). Try connecting again. If it connects then it's just the SSID that isn't working... if there is no joy, then it is just the SSID that isn't broadcasting, not the whole AP.

Also, enable some debugging for the radio0 while it is not working. It might shed some light.

SOURCE: radio0 and radio1 "not installed" problem on Cisco 1131AG

check that you have enough power on the PoE to power up both radios. Switch one off for clarity and see if 1 powers up. Also check the log of the AP and the PoE switch as it will report the power related issue if it is a pre- PoE approved switch

When I enable the vlan option in an EAP9550 I lose wireless access

Bruce,

Is the goal to use a different VLAN for each access point (AP)? If so then you will need to configure each NetGear port to use the same VLAN as the AP that is connected to it. You will then need either a switched virtual interface (SVI) for each VLAN on the NetGear or a trunk port (802.1q) from the NetGear to the Cisco. I'm not sure the NetGear will support SVIs but it will support trunks. An SVI basically creates a gateway for each VLAN's subnet. For example, let's say AP1 uses VLAN 10 and the subnet is 10.0.10.0/24 while AP2 uses VLAN 20 with a 10.0.20.0/24 subnet. The NetGear will need 2 SVIs, one for each VLAN/subnet. The first SVI for VLAN 10 can be configured with IP address 10.0.10.1/24 while the second SVI can be configured with 10.0.20.1/24 for VLAN 20. These IP addresses will be the gateway for each VLAN. Finally, the NetGear would need to act as a router and route each VLAN's subnet to the Cisco device. Once again I don't believe the FS726TP supports this.

The other solution would be to create a VLAN trunk port between the NetGear and the Cisco device but I believe the Cisco RV042 does not support trunking. If it does the trunk would be configured to carry all of the VLANs to the Cisco device which would then have SVIs created on it.

If neither of the above is possible you would need to use the same VLAN for each AP and each of the interfaces on the NetGear and Cisco devices which negates the need for the VLANs.

I hope this helps.

I have a HP ProCurve MSM 410 AP. It will accept clients and then in 20 minutes it starts dropping connections..and will not let them back on with a restart. I have poured over the specs for both AP and...

I'm having a very similar issue with 5 MSM410's (at 2 differant locations), purchased at the same time, from the same vendor.

With 2, when connected using PoE Injector, the AP gets hot (at the Data/Poe port), and only permits 3 devices to connect before the devices start losing the ability comminicate beyond the AP (i.e. I can logon to the AP with the Web Interface (WI), but cannot ping the DHCP server or even the Gateway device on the other side of th AP from the devices, but can ping both directions without issue from the AP's WI). HOWEVER; when connected using the PoE from a Cisco ASA-5505 (port 0/6 or 0/7) the devices work flawlessly.
- For this site, I replaced the Power Injector first, then replaced the AP. No change
- When connected to the PoE on the Cisco the unit does not run "Hot".

With 3 others at another location, they only allow 3 devices to connect and will disconnect any devices previously connected. These 3 are supplied PoE from Dell PowerConnect Gigabit Switches (also used to supply power to the VoIP and PoE Security Camera's), and also run Hot at the Data/PoE ports. We have not tried power injectors at this site.

I've tried to find any indication of how to adjust the PoE and Data Port settings to resolve this, but cannot find anything, and this appears to be a unique issue, as noone I have contacted has ever experianced it.

How to reset the 1131 Cisco AP manually.

In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

Can't connect to my Cisco Aironet 350 wireless Access Point

Did you setup and configure your Cisco aironet 350 directly from your laptop? I would verify the IP configuration on your laptop and make sure that your Default Gateway and subnet mask and DNS are set correctly. Give it a static address on the same subnet and see if it can see the router. Hope that helps!

Cheers!
