Question about Whirlpool ED2FHEXN Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Icemaker won't fill

I have a side-by-side Whirlpool refrigerator purchased in 2005. The icemaker won't fill. About a year ago this happened and I used a hair dryer to thaw the shosrt black rubber hose where the water enters the tray--it had become frozen. I've tried that this time and it's not helping and just freezes back. What to do? Thanks.

My icemaker is not dumping the ice when it's frozen.

Replacing the icemaker is neither expensive nor hard. Order a replacement on the Internet.

Sounds like a malfunction in the icemaker itself.

How to thaw a frozen ice maker?

f your icemaker has frozen up, here's how to thaw it:
1) Unplug the refrigerator.

2) Remove the ice bin and any loose ice from the icemaker.

3) Find the fill tube, the white rubber-like hose that delivers the water into the icemaker.
4) Pull the small metal clip off the housing that holds the fill tube down (not all icemakers have this clip).

5) Warm the hose and surrounding mechanism. To do this, you can train a hair dryer on the icemaker to melt any ice blocking the mechanism.

Sop up dripping water with a rag. Be very careful when using the hair dryer near water, and do not stand in a puddle of water; there is a serious risk of electrical shock.

Also be careful not to melt the plastic parts. If you don't want to use a hair dryer, you can soak the supply tubing with hot water, using a turkey baster and catching the overflow in the empty icemaker bin. In some cases, it may be easier to remove the icemaker to thaw out the fill tube.

As a rule, refrigerators are the most dependable of all large appliances. Even so, they do fail to do their jobs adequately on occasion, and when they do, the results can be disastrous because expensive food can spoil in a hurry.

Though most problems call for a repairperson, there are a few simple repairs you can handle yourself by checking the power, controls, condenser coils, and other parts outside of your refrigerator's sealed, hermetic system.

Remember that the best way to lengthen the life of a refrigerator is to clean the condenser coils once a year—or more frequently if they get dirty.

Ice maker stopped dropping ice or even making ice.

Try using a hair dryer to thaw out the rubber tubing leading to the ice tray. On mine, I opened up the front door to the icemaker and found the rubber tubing leading in. I squeazed it, it felt frozen, so I applied heat. Water began dripping out, the area thawed, and I had ice again within a short period of time.

you p robably have a frozen fill tube for the icemaker. coming inot the rear is a tube for dispensing water into the icemaker. check this for ice if it is frozen you can thaw it out by using a blow dryer to melt theice out. on some models this tube comes thru the back wall of the freezer for cross the freezer icemakers there is a black tube that comes out of the ceiling. if you have any questions please post here and I'll get back to ya thanks Peyton

Whirpool fridge won't make ice

a loss of water supply to the refrig could cause this problem. check the fill tube that supplies water to the icemaker (this is the tube that omes into the rear of the icemaker) i think you will find it is frozen up. you can clear this out wiht a hair dryer. I just looked at a diagram for the model number you provided and the fill tube is the black tube that comes into the fill cup on the far right hand side of the icemaker. you will have to raise the icemaker door to see it. but heating this and clearing the ice will fix it thanks peyton

The Icemaker on my 25 cu ft side by side is not filling the tray.

most likely the fill tube for the icemaker is frozen up you should see a tube running into the back of the icemaker. heat the tube up with a hair dryer until the ice is gone and you should be back on the road..
