Kenmore front loader stops/freezes in pump out mode just before final spin

Sir,
I have a Kenmore washer model number 417.40042990 and It runs great up until it almost reaches the final spin mode.If you look at the timer/selector dial, it freezes at approx.22 min.pass the hour and the final spin mode starts at approx.25 min. pass the hour.(Hope I' making sense) It does the same thing in the perm. press and delicate cycles also.I assumed (1st. mistake) that the timer had a worn gear or something inside and replaced it. $150.00 plus later and wah-lah, same thing.I have tried turning off the EXTRA RINSE switch, using only cold water wash/rinse,unpluging the power supply and all to no avail. I have also tried to open and close the dispenser tray (fabric softener still has not dispensed) and no changes. BUT if I push in the knob and turn it ever so slightly, pull it back out, the washer continues and finishes just like normal. Any ideas? Thanks Tim

My Kenmore washer (#417.40042990) stops just before the last rinse cycle(not sure if "last rinse cycle" is the proper terminology)but it's the cycle when the fabric softener should be despensed. The machine operates just fine up to that point. It begins to drain to get ready for the "last rinse cycle" and continues to drain. All the water is pumped outand the pump keeps running and doesn't stop. This is were it freezes in that pump out mode and doesn't do anything. If I push in the timer knob,(turn it just enough to here a click),pull the knob back out and the machine dispenses the fabric softener, goes through the final spin and buzzes when complete.I have already replaced the timer and it didn't fix the problem. Is there some electrical tests I can do to determine if the problem is maybe the speed control board or maybe the door locking switch?

It doesn't agitate
It's noisy
It leaks
It's off balance
There's no hot water
There's no cold water
It's slow to fill
There's no water at all
The clothes are wet after spinning
The cycle doesn't advance
There's no delicate or regular spin or agitate
It's overfilling
It's underfilling
The water temperature is incorrect

  • It's
the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins
agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin
cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

It does sound like a mechanical problem, but probably deeper in the mechanism than the timer dial itself.

THE MACHINE RUNS VERY WELL QUIET UNTIL THE FINAL SPIN CYCLE THEN FROM THE BACK OF THE MACHINE THERE IS A SQUEAL THAT GETS LOADER AS THE SPEED PICKS UP

This may well be the drum drive belt in the back of the washing machine. This belt transfers drive from the motor to the drum for both wash cycles and spinning. If the belt is slipping slightly on the pulley then a squeal may well be heard on the spin cycle and will change in pitch as the speed of the drum increases. At lower speeds (wash cycles) the belt probably won't slip. I don't personally know of this model but there is usually a tension adjustment nut/bolt near the motor to tighten the belt and stop it slipping.

Check that the feet are level to the floor as this may cause the vibration. Also set the machine to wool mode this then knows what material you are putting in the machine then should cycle to that material.

Kenmore 417-48102701 front end loader washer. Won't go into spin cycle? Any thoughts of what to look for?

could be a number of problems, but try this FIRST push and hold any two buttons in for about 20 seconds make sure the machine is on,if this fails then you could have a blocked pump ie a sock is the usual suspect some mackines have a filter at the lower front check below the door if there is one then open and unscrew anty clock wise,if not then the pump will need removed and unblocked.adrianxxx

Drum will not spin

did he run the diagnostics per the tech sheet within the machine?if it will do everything else but spin out, then the drain pump is plugged,as a plugged drain pump will shut down these front load units, you will need to remove hoses off pump and clean out pump and all hoses from tub to drain stand pipe,by running the diagnostics you can run each washer cycle and see what cycle isnt performing in a matter of 5 minutes versus 1 hour real wash time on some cycles

Front loader stuck in final spin - not draining

Hello,

Very likely the reason your washer isn't draining is because the filter screen on the drain pump is blocked so it cant drain, its a fairly common thing wrong with those type front loaders soi have written this tip covering how to clean that filter, http://www1.fixya.com/support/r10121384-check_when_duet_washer_door_locked_after

The washing machine runs thru the entire cycle but then stops with 2 minutes remaining and does not spin or drain

if the unit is a front loader then remove the front panel on bottom and there should be adrain pump check for any obstructions in the drain pump...some of kenmore models aare now putting clean outs in this area also and you will be able to open a cap and check for any foreign devri..it sounds like you have a drain pump problem and may luck out by cleaning unit out...be aware there will be water so make sure you unplug unit and have a few large towels ready for the gallon or so of water... these pumps are made with plastic impellars now so the slightest trash inthem will stop operation....hope this helps you out...... p.s a wet vac works great for this process....

Stopped working mid cycle. The timer still counts down but does not fill, agitate, spin, drain. And before it stopped, the water that was draining out smelled really bad.

The filter on your pump is probably clogged with lint and stuff. You have to remove the bottom front panel, 3 torx screws underneath. The panel will drop and come off. Drain off the excess water from the hose you see. The white filter cover is right in front. Get yourself a bunch of towels or a good big plastic bag to collect water. Unscrew the filter cover and twist the filter out. Clean out all the stuff and put it back in carefully.

Next: You can use Affresh to clean your front loader. Deposits of soap and other such things can be stuck around the inside tub of your washer. Try this product, it works great on all front loaders. Use quite hot water with the Affresh pellet with no clothes and run the machine through a cycle. Also helps with any stagnant water smells. Have you cleaned out your pump lately. Put the pellet inside the machine, not in the soap dispenser.
Pl give me a good rating for the free help, thanks.
