I think you answered your own questions . Out of all your game's Black ops
is the only game that does this , if so does it play on a friends console ?
this would pin it down to the game , right?

Normally, I would say that the issue sounds like a bad drive, but since it only happens with Black Ops it might be an issue with the game disc. If you can, I'd try a different copy of the game to see if you can replicate the issue.

My 360 will not play black ops. i have tried many new disc and nothing works. it will read other games but this one.

Try downloading the game to your hard drive and then taking out and putting the disc back in. If it says open tray several times in a row, try making the xbox vertical instead of horizontal.

When you put a disc in it reads open tray.

Hello ckpynn,
I have had this problem myself with my own Xbox 360. From my experience, I have noticed that the issue is usually caused due to the Xbox not being able to read the disc. This could be due to the laser inside the Xbox is dirty or damaged - or it could be the disc itself. I never attempted to repair this because I found that after about 5 or more tries, my Xbox was able to read the disc.
When you open the tray to put the disc in or to try and get the Xbox to read it, try rotating the disc a little bit and insert again.
If this doesn't work, you may need to contact Microsoft technical support for further assistance.

I Played COD Black Ops Two Days Ago And Now I'm Getting This Open Tray Error.. I Tired Blowing In It, Cleaning the Brand New Disc off It Reads It Sometimes and Then Says Open Tray... Help Me

I have the same preoblem with my 360. Try to take the disk out and power off the console. power it back on and let it start up without the disc inside. After this turn it off and restart the console. Put the disc in and it should start.

Its a problem with the sensor in the DVD drive of the console. You warranty may still cover it so if it continues I would call Microsoft at 188-4-my-xbox.

I HAVE HEARD THAT THE NEW COD BLACK OPS WILL CAUSE YOUR XBOX NOT TO READ ANY GAME OR CD THAT YOU PUT IN NEXT. ON BOTH MY CONSOLES ALL I GET IS AN OPEN TRAY MESSAGE. I TRIED UNPLUGGING AND RESTARTING,...

Its not the game. Unless its just in your copy as I've played it and others after that. Try taking your 360 disc drive apart and cleaning laser. If cleaning the laser doesnt work you might need a new laser which is under $10 on ebay. Hope this helps.

My xbox is not reading any of my discs. it just reads open tray. when we close it again it says reading and then goes back to open tray. can you help?

Hi,the most common reason for the Games not reading discs is a bad drive. The following website sells the drives and does installs:

store.richspsxparts.com/wiiredvddr

This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your games, or issues inserting your games or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your game including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your game going again!

Take care.

Disk tray is not spinning

The way to fix this is to open the disk tray and blow inside for about thirty seconds getting the dust out of the way of the laser also blow across the disc tray and the surface of the disk. Then keep closing and opening the tray and it will start to read hopefully. if this does not work go out and buy a disc cleaner. it looks like a disc with sponges on it and when you insert it into the console it cleans the inside for you. CD/DVD drive stuck CLOSED and NO pin hole

Use my computer and select the drive (eg drive E:). From pull down menu "File" select "eject". While the disk door attempts to open (hear slight movement of tray) massage the door with your fingers. This is done by smoothing out the across front door panel with your finger tips and pushing in and releasing pressure from door. Door should slide open partially and close again. Repeat. The eject button nearside the disc tray doesn't seem to work as well as selecting "File" and "Eject" from the menu. Something to do with the door cycle is less with the direct eject button.

CD drine issue

To manually open the CD Drive, straighten a paper clip and insert it into a tiny hole in the front of your CD drive and push the paper clip gently into the drive and the tray should then pop open.
Open and close this several times, then insert a disc into the drive and see if it will read the disc.
If not the drive is dead and needs to be replaced.

Cannor Read DVDs

I have a similar issue to you, except that my dvd drive will only recognize a disc if I have booted up into windows with it in the tray...once in windows it will still think it has the first disc in no matter what disc i insert. If i boot up with no disc then it will never read it unless I follow the steps below.

A solution I found by pure frustration and trying all sorts of things is to eject the DVD tray and leave it opened, then right click on the dvd drive in 'my computer' and select the 'hardware' tab...then select the drive and click 'properties'.
A new window should open. Select 'volumes' and click 'populate'. Now close the window and insert the disc you wish to read, close the tray and repeat this process. Windows should now recognize the disc you inserted

Alot of trouble I know, but it works for me. Hope this helps.
