Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

When I try to delete a picture/video it says WRITE PROTECT with a ! point

Hi there, Can you take pictures on it? It sounds like the SD card is locked. If you take the SD card out, you should see a slider on one of the sides. Push it up to unlock the card - then you should be able to delete. If it is already up, then there is a write protect option on your camera you need to disable. Alex

Every time I go into capture or video mode the key icon shows and I can't take picture nor record videos

I think the key is telling you that the video card is locked/ write protected. Assuming its an SD card. Take it out of the camera and look at the left hand side, there should be a notch that you can slide up and down, move it to unlock. If the notch is broken, cover it with a small piece of tape. Rather like we used to with cassette and VCR tapes.

If its not the card, then you may have photo/file protection switched in on your camera, you'll have to go throught the menu settings.

Protected feature

There are 2 probable solutions. 1. The images are "protected" by the camera & will show "locked" when you try to erase them. 2. The SD card in the camera is locked. The solution to 1 is to unlock the images in the playback menu. See page 46 of the manual. Note that you need to select "unlock" you can't select protect as they are already protected! Solution 2 is to remove the card from the camera & check the "lock" slider that you can see on the side (although no all cards have this). Set the lock off. You can download the manual from the first link on the following page: http://www.vivitar.com/manuals/english/ViviCam6300/CameraManual.pdf Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

LCD screen displays menu items but will not display picture capture & won't take pictures

A very common problem with many Digital cameras. It sounds as if you are suffering from either a CCD problem or a video board problem. Impossible to tell without it being on the bench to check. You could dismantle it and check there's nothing adrift such as flat ribbon cables in their sockets or loose plugs and sockets between the printed circuit boards. Watch out for the flash unit it can give you a nasty shock if it's charged. Most cameras seem to built to last as long as the warranty and then die. This keeps you coming back for more. At least you were lucky to get 2 years out of yours before it passed on.
