Question about Canon DC220 DVD Camcorder

1 Answer

I have finalized many discs with no problem. When I try to finalize the last I made one I keep getting the message "unable to revover data". This is the video of a friends weddding so is very important. Is there any way through this. The video is on the disc and replays on the camera. It just won't finalize.

As I explained in my first post I know very well all the rules about fianlizing a DVD, but thank you for reminding me.
Unfortunatley the second part of your post appears to make no sense. The links don't provide me with any help and quite frankly I have no idea what you are talking about. If I put the unfinalized DVD in my computer it just shows up as a blank DVD with no info on it.

    Your intrstuctions make no sense
    1. You give me a link to Isobuster which is a link to a download sight but no ISobuster, 2. Your link to WinHex is to some virus which attempts to invade my computer (fortuanatley I have McAfee virusa protection ) 3. Your link toDVD styler is not a valid link. You then give me some further instructions which are incomprensible. I paid money to get some valid help for a problem not incomprehensible and possbily harmful nonsense.

to begin with, some important information:

  • You'll need to format the DVD before you record on it. This feature will be in the setup menu.
  • Use only DVDs recommended by Canon as any others may not be able to be finalized once you're done recording.
  • Finalizing is what you need to do in order to prepare the DVD to be played in a DVD player. To Finalize, you'll need to hook it up to it's AC adapter and select finalize from the menu.
  • You cannot finalize a disc (DVD-R/DVD-R DL or DVD-RW) recorded in VIDEO mode if it contains only still images. Record at least one scene before finalizing the disc.
  • The camcorder can't perform finalization if it's exceeded its operational temperature. Turn off the camcorder and let it cool down before resuming use.
Anyways, I've found this... Maybe it can help you:
1) Use IsoBuster to mate a .toa file of the selected track (the burned part of your DVD).
2) Open the .toa file in WinHex. Select: Tools > Disc Tools > File Recovery By Type > Select the two mpeg file options > set max. file size and click ok.
Use a DVD authorizing software (such as DVDStyler) to burn the MPEG video file in a DVD structure.

In case of a problem or clarification or my solution was insufficient, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

With a further research, I've found this on the internet:

One way to do it is to extract the data to a .tao file using the free
    version of ISOBuster and convert
that to a format your computer can play. You might want to split it into
individual programs, so I'd demultiplex, edit and re-multiplex. I'd
then use VOBEdit to demultiplex, though MPEG StreamClip might also work.

to copy the unfinalized DVD using Alcohol 120%/copy
wizard/copy-on-the-fly. The copy made using Alcohol 120% should play
perfectly on your computer or other device.

You're right, the disc "appears" to be empty - but we both know it actually isn't - that's why I gave you instructions on how to extract the video(s) from the "empty" disc.
Have it a try! If any problems arise, don't hesitate to consult me again!

    Good luck again,

After recording a program on a DVD+R disc, the TV screen says "Disc Finalize Processing...." and nothing else works. I can't stop it, watch it, finalize it, or power off.

The DVD burner in your DVD-VR is defective. Get it replaced at a service center. Is is not able to read the lead in lead out information from your disc. Try playing one of the disc you have written on another DVD player.

I am unable to finalize the dvd disc....camcorder shows "access error"....but I am able to view my videos in camcorder from the same dvd disc

It seems the "access error" message happens because the lens doesn't open all the way. If you try to pull the lens, it does not happen however hard you try.

Here's how I've been fixing the problem as it happens intermittently to me. Power on the camera, then I gently tap it on a hard surface (like a desk). Mine will then work for months until I repeat.

If this is the same situation which you are facing, the above solution works.!!

Using DVD-RW. How do I delete clips after finalizing, downloading to computer, then re-inserting the disk. I get message saying I cannot delete after finalizing

using this type of disc even in video or vr mode recording, it is not possible to delete the clips after finalization. unfinalizing the disc may not help.the delete option is possible only when you delete the last scene immediately from the camcorder.for reference see p.14 of the clips in between the first and last recording would not be possible to option would be to use your only the movie files that you would like to put on a disc and use your burning application for that least you get to choose the clips you want and would have the capability of compiling it on a regular dvd disc.hope this helps.tnx:)

I have a Sony-MC6 and created a DVD disc that will not finalize.

I recently got my MC6 and have not had this problem. We are using Sony R+ DVD's. After recording it asks if you want to finalize it- select yes. It goes through its gyrations and then ejects. What kind of DVD's are you using?

Finalize the disc

depends what type of disc-rw's won't highlight sometimes because they don't always need to be finalized to play-insert the disc if r in another brand and see if you can finalize-go to bb or circuit and ask them if you can stick it in display and see if it comes up-if never proably was done already-also try different dvd players

the disc is most probally badly manufactured this is why it could not finalize. the only thing you can do now is playback the disc in the camera and plug the AV out into a stand alone dvd recorder and dump it to disc or hdd.
