1/ Basically, each hard drive need a separate SATA cable (I guess no one use ATA Hard drive now).
2/ You also may need a SATA power jack, if your case does not have one.

If its ide connection on your hard drive and motherboard yes you do it will be a long ribbon cable needed the hard drive will have what looks like 30 mins parallel to each other if its seral ata it will be small black on the back with a small L shapped on the right side for power those are called serial ata and you will need a sata power connecter from your power supply (you can buy a converter from the 4 pin white molex for cheap) and sata cable that will plug into your motherboard its fool proof as you cant plug it into the wrong thing.
