Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have this hard drive that has been working fine on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite 300) for the last couple of weeks. It is brand new. About 3 days ago it stopped showing up on my computer hard rives. I have searched the net looking for answers and installing drivers etc doesn't fix it. It is not visible on Disc Manager, Device Manager or in Devices and Printers. The USB ports are all working with other flash drives so it is not that either. Because of the model there is no on/off or reset switches on the hard drive. It has a lot of v important files on it so I would prefer it not to be wiped. I have not used it on any other comps or laptops and reconfigured anything, it has just disappeared! Please help

I would first try plugging it into another computer to see if it will be recognized by a different PC

Toshiba c650d not booting up

Most typical reason for Toshiba laptop not booting up is a defective hard drive.
If you have a Windows disc that came with your laptop, then find an inexpensive hard drive at a retailer that enables you to return the hard drive within 14 days......and replace the hard drive. Make SURE the hard drive is a 2.5 inch model and that it is a direct replacement for your notebook. (Call the vendor's tech support if necessary to ensure compatibility).

If you are able to reload Windows, then your problem is fixed. If not, return the hard drive and take your notebook in for a repair estimate.

The plug in will not changer the battery on my toshiba l 300 d series laptop. What could the problem be and would be a hard to fix?

your battery is dead, you will need to purchase a new battery. laptop batteries are not designed to last forever. they typically only last a few years.

How do I remove the hard drive in Toshiba SatellitePro A10 EN? (Removing the plastic cover exposes only the end of the hard drive. I'm reluctant to just start pulling on it!

  • The original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD is fitted into a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive cradle - Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD caddy.

      • Gently remove the cradle from the laptop, yes pull on it
      • Unscrew the original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive & remove it from the cradle.
      • Screw the new Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive into the cradle & refit the cradle into the laptop.
      • Re-install XP or Vista

It is taking forever to use the recovery DVD to intall programs an a brand new Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB hard drive I bought for my Toshiba M35X-S114. BIOS doesn't detect the hard drive which is...

If it's a 250GB, the recovery DVD needs to format this drive (insofar as I know, Toshiba's recovery disks never uses quick format) - so .... yeah! It'll take a couple of hours just to prep the hard drive before the actual recovery imaging begins, and that's assuming that the hard drive formatted without errors.

If the hard drive has errors (bad sectors), it really could stretch out the total time. I've done a recovery on a hard drive that contained 100MB worth of bad sectors and it took an entire two days to put an image on it. Why'd I do it? I justed wanted to know how long it was gonna take...

          New product not working

Make sure the usb port you plug the device in is active
Or search on the internet for the most update driver
External hard drives are plug_and_play so you don’t have to format them

          Need a new hard drive

          Hi Ekhubbar,

First of all, if your laptop is still under warranty and suffering from a hardware fault, it may be worth checking with Toshiba in the first instance so see if they can replace it. If you can provide any details about why you require a new hard drive, I may be able to assist further, otherwise if you are just looking for a replacement of the same size and spec, see below.

The product spec of your system quote that the M45-S165 comes with :

"80GB (5400 RPM) Enhanced IDE (ATA-6) hard disk drive; 8.0mm height; user removable"

Doing a quick search reveals a price at around $60.00 (for a drive made by Toshiba). However if you are going for something cheap and cheerful from egg, you may want to check out the $35 drive. It is the same size in storage, and spec wise it will access your data faster.

Here is a link to the specific product in question (on

So it would be cheap to buy a seperate laptop hard drive, but do make sure that you have a professional replace it for you.

          Hope this helps,

Booting problems with my Toshiba Satellite P105

Try to reinstall the video driver from Safe mode.
It appears your hard disk is OK but the operating system and or registry is corrupted.
          1. Try installing the video driver first.
          2. If it still does not work, back up your data files in Safe Mode then re-install XP again, make sure you delete the partition and create a new partition and do a full NTFS format, not a quick format.
