Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

2 Answers

I am working on a emachine desktop that had windows xp on it, I am trying to install windows 7 ultimate on it, after formatting the hard drive and setting up a partition, It installs about 81 percent then suddenly the screen goes black and has two white vertical lines on the right hand side of the screen and doesn't do anything after that. I've tried installing it 3 times now and every time it does the same thing. Does anyone have any clue on why it's doing this? the computer was due back to the client a few days ago.. :/

Your computer -may- be out of date. The visual hardware need to run windows 7 must be up to date, and not made before 2003. Depending on how old your computer is, Windows 7 may or may not run on it. It may also just as well be a problem with your monitor. Is your monitor very old?

How do i format hard drive

It can't format the drive it's using at the time.

If you don't care if it removes everything on the disk, you can boot up from the Windows 7 install disk, and the installer can format your disk.

You need to start with a fresh, fully formatted hard drive (which also checks the physical surface of the drive for errors). Don't choose fast format. Insure that you have enough free space on the partition or hard drive.

EMachines ET1810-01 trying to install xp pro on clean hd, cmos does not show hard drive and xp says there is no hd. it is connected. how do i get it to find the hd?

You need to format your hard drive. Set your boot device to cdrom in your bios. Boot using xp cd.DO a reinstall of windows and it should give you the option to format or delete partitions on your hard drive. if that doesnt work try putting the hard drive in another computer to see if it works. Or you can buy a hard drive enclosure that allows you to use your hard drive as an external device.

Installation windows xp emachine t5082

You must find "eMachine" XP USB drivers for your computer.
If all USB support is "enabled" in BIOS, the conflict is with drivers.
XP is loaded with many generic drivers, however eMachines is proprietary and requires eMachine drivers for most on-board hardware.

Contact eMachines support to locate the drivers (if available).

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!
