Question about Vacuums

Open Question

I have a RIVAL Vacuum Sealer Model VS150. I need to repair the power button that is located under the cover. It looks like someone pushed the button into the machine without lowering the cover. I live in Bridgewater, MA & the address on the unit is in Milford, MA. Any suggestions.

SOURCE: Seal-a-meal won't seal

I put the food in the bag and place the unsealed end of bag in as
directed to seal and does not take out the air out of bag but it will seal. The motor seems to be having a hard time.

SOURCE: why won't my Rival vacuum sealer vacuum?. It just hums when I push the vacuum button.

If the noise is coming from the motor area it may be a broken fan blade, if it's broken replace it. If the noise is coming from the brush area then it may be a defective brushroller bearing or brushroller, if either is defective it needs to be replaced.
Inspect a) power cord b) outlet wall c) thermal FUSE very important.d) see any debris see diagram attached.

Cannot get it to vacuum.

Does it try to vacuum but never flattens the bag? Make sure the bag you are using is completely sealed on the opposite end. Otherwise, the seal on the sealer is probably allowing air to leak into the sealer. If it has a foam sealer, I've found it sometimes helps to run the foam sealer under water, squeeze out the excess water, reinsert the foam sealer (make sure it is seated all the way) and then try again to seal the bag.

Dc17 won't turn on

there is a reset button under the cover that houses the on/off switches. remove the handle/wand and look on the back (where the top of the hose sits) for 2 screws (its a torx/star head screw size t10 i believe). remove them and locate 4 small locking tabs that hold the switch cover to the frame of the vacuum. Depress them and pop the cover off (2 towards the top and 2 towards the bottom). Youll see 3 switches (2 square red buttons and one small cylindrical shaped one). Push the small red one (the one to the left if my memory serves me right). you should hear a click. if you do than the switch is reset. if not check all connections to all 3 switches. if you see nothing loose or not connected, you may need a new brushbar motor.

The powerhead brush died. The vacuum works just fine, but the brush doesn't.

there could be 2 reasons for this problem.

one) the powerhead is dead legit as in there is no power coming to it or the motor is actually dead.

2) something jammed in the brush and popped the reset button. The reset button is a red button located as your looking at the back of the powerhead on the right side. Usually a red square. Push it and it SHOULD start up again.

That being said, if you have done the reset button and it still does not work, that unit I beleive has either a 2 or 5 year warranty (cannot remember dont have the documentation in front of me) and if it is still covered under warranty for you, take it to your closest Vacuum repair shop. Do take the hose and powerhead with the cannister unit.

good luck

Power head will not work

Greetings from GoVacuum,

Try pushing the Overload Reset Button which is located on the power nozzle, near where the height adjustment window is. It should be a grey button that says Overload Reset Switch. If you push down on this button, it should reset the power head. This feature is put on the vacuum cleaner to protect the belt from burning out when you accidentally vacuum something into it.

9 times out of 10 this is the reason why your power head is not working.

I hope that this was able to fix your vacuum cleaner. If it didn't, I certainly am more then happy to try and diagnose the problem fruther with you. Please feel free to contact me by requesting a "Clarification Request" here on Fixya, or just sending me an email to chris.jones (at) govacuum (dot) com.

If this repair was helpful, and it fixed your vacuum, please rate the repair as helpful by clicking on the 4 Thumbs Up Icons in the top right hand corner of this repair.

Thank you so much for helping me start out here on Fixya.

Kenmore Model 116 Cannister Vacuum.Trying to get into motor area. Think belt is worn out. I have removed the front two screws under the hinged cover, but can not remove cover over motor.. Still attached at...

Under the cordwinder actuator button, are your other two screws. To remove this cover, take a flat tipped screwdriver and , very carefully, find the "tabs" (there are two) both on the front section under the button. Then, Carefully, press them in and back and up, in that order, one at atime, or both if you can. Your button should pop off, it can be a bit tricky, I know, it feels like it could break. But don't worry, they usually don't break. If you think that there is a problem with your belt, there is no reason to be accessing the motor compartment, for there is not a belt anywhere except the power nozzle, and if you press the circuit breaker/reset switch (while unit is running) located on the power nozzle, this will often solve problems with your belt. I hope i could help fixya! Let me know, thanks! Rene (the Vacuum Doctor)

Melts the bag and won't seal

if your vacuum cleaner gets hot enough to melt it's own parts, i think you have a problem. exesive heat could indicate a serious problem and might also cause a fire. try having it checked by a repair shop because replacing the seal and continuing to use it might be dangerous.
