Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

My 10 year old Kenmore "coldspot" has stopped cooling; the freezer is completely off. It was fine yesterday. Could it be the compressor?

I have a Sears Kenmore refrigerator, about 10 years old, freezer on top. The back is covered so you don't see the "cooling ribs". The motor runs but it is not cooling. What's wrong? Thanks.

replace the ptc overload relay on the compressor in the lower rear,it may seem like the compressors running and if its overly hot then the ptc is bad, just unplug this component off the compressor and obtain a new replacement at any appliance dealer carrying that brand

Stopped cooling.

It is possible the cold control has gone bad. Or the defrost timer is stuck in defrost, or even the compressor has gone bad.

I have a 10 year old Kenmore top freezer that clunks when it shut

its the compressor,
i would not spend a dime on it,
a compressor is around 200 to put it in could cost up to 200 more, then its a long shot with who will be doing the work
10 years is the avergae age of this unit so count your self lucky
and invest in a replacement
the old one may
last a year, but it will go
your loosing the center seal
sorry its not beeter news

Refrigerator not cool, freezer ok

Either the freezer continues to freeze up (most likely due to low refrigerant, due to a leak), or there is an obstruction between the freezer and the refrigerator (refrigerators get their cooling from the freezer).

Given that it works after you defrost it, I'm going with low gas. Call a professional to see if the leak can be fixed. If the unit is more than 10 years old, just get a new one.

Kenmore coldspot 106.54563300 is not cooling. First the freezer stopped cooling then the fridge stopped. The fan is still working. Pulled fridge out, compressor was very hot. Is this a relay problem? If...

Not good news, it sounds like a compressor problem. Vacuum clean everthing you can safely get to in order to make it eaiser for the repair guy, (hopefully to save money). How old is the fridge?

5 year old refrigerator stopped cooling

Sounds like your refridgerant compressor or the motor driving it has bit the dust.  I am assuming it does not kick on or you can't hear it running.  Call a local appliance repair to get a quote, but 9 times out of 10, it is cheaper to replace the fridge.  A motor and compressor can cost upwards of 300-600 bucks.  That is just from my knowledge and your model may be higher or lower.  Best to get an appliance guy to take a look.
