Are you inserting the batteries with the totally flat side up and button side down?
And did you remember to put the clear cmos jumper back where it was, because if not, not only may you have damaged the unit, but that is the only explanation I can see for draining the battery like that.
The PC should never be powered on while the cmos jumper is in the clear position.
