No its not normal it means one of 3 things highly unlickly but the cord that goes from the brick to the wall is bad. more likely the brick itself is going bad, or the actual part where it connects to your pc is loose. worse case is your battery itself may be loosing the ability to charge.. hope this helps would love a thumbs up lol if that solves it.

Toshiba A205-S5809 Wont power on

Try another cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs. If you have a multimeter, verify DC voltage at the AC jack plug. If the AC jack, in the laptop, has been pulled, damaged, it's may have a loose connection. You didn' say if ANY LED's, battery charge, work? If the battery is charged and it doesn't start on battery only, then you have other issues. It may need a ride to a Qualified Computer Tech.

Power does not on my laptop

This could be one of several reasons. The most common reasons that a laptop won't power up are a dead battery, or a non-functioning charging chord. My first step would be to plug the laptop into an outlet in the wall that I know for a fact works. If I am unfamiliar with that specific plug, I will plug something into that outlet that makes noise or light. Such as a lamp, stereo, or phone charger. After you have verified that the wall is giving electricity to the charging chord, the next step is to check the next step in the power chain. That would be where the chord from the wall plugs into the transformer box, that plugs into the laptop itself. So the first step is to check that the outlet that charges the laptop is receiving power. As a side not just because a top plug is getting power does not mean that a bottom plug is as well in my experience. After power received, next check connections. Those connections will include the transformer connection, and the laptop connection. Also you may wish to check for cut, loose, frayed, taped, kinked, or otherwise dangerous looking chords. I also do not recommend using third party Universal laptop chargers bought from the store. I only would use one of these in an emergency situation. I don't trust the power regulation. And on top of that a laptop charger chord is so much cheaper on-line if you buy from somewhere like e-bay. That charger will be laptop model specific. Generally a new charger is about $15-35 on e-bay, and a new battery could be as cheap as $50. Although I would also recommend finding out if your laptop is under warranty. If it is within a year old this is a good possibility. That route takes a lot of patience, but it is usually free.

How do you get this notebook to run on just the battery please?

Hi there,
to use or running Notebook in a battery, simply unplug the battery charger ( power chord) and your battery should be fully charged.

by the way, if ou having the problem of a laptop shutting off when you unplug the charger when your battery is fully charged, there is nothing wrong with the laptop, battery, or computer, it is a power management setting. What you need to do is:

  1. Go to display properties
  2. select the screen saver ta and click the "power" button
  3. In the power schemes tab there iss a drop down window, click it and select "Portable/Laptop" (it is a power switching utility that quickly switches between AC and Battery when the power cable/charger is plugged in or unplugged while the laptop is on)
hope this help a little, ask me if you need more assisst.
regards

My Gateway laptop NV54,shuts off when i either unplug the power chord or plug it in. Then it turns back on. The battery charges alright and works. Do you know what is the problem?

I would suspect a bad connection on the motherboard since you say your battery is OK--I take it to mean that your computer runs when plugged in or on battery.
Try this:
Leave the charger plugged into the computer and unplug it from the wall. Then plug it back in. Do you have the same problem? If not, then it's the physical act of plugging the plug into the machine that is causing the problem and that would be causing some kind of contact problem on the motherboard.

Power chord problem

(1) Does the machine work with the cord plugged, if so it is the battery or the charger circuit at fault

(2) If it does not work then there is either a break in the cable where it enters the plug which plugs into the back of the laptop or the power supply has failed
