There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for 5 mins, then try.

If you aren't tech savvy, this unit needs to go in for repair.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for different brand, but same issue) on youtube.

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.

I have an old emerson TV/VCR (Digital Tracking VHSHQ) The TV works fine, but when I put a tape in it is ejected and part of the tape stays inside, but can be pulled out.

Try a VHS Cleaning Tape Cassette. Follow it's instructions. If no better result it's not worth throwing away money on having repairs done but better put toward, if you can afford to, buying:
Option 1. A VHS/DVD player (combo as these are known) and plug that into the Emerson AV input.
Option Two: A VHS/DVD twin recorder combo deck - and plug that in.
Then start on copying any VHS tapes you cherish to DVD on this device.
Option Three: Forget the Emerson except for just using as a TV and buy a new TV with DVD player built in - the latest type of combo.
(I'm having to guess whether you've just used tapes to watch or record and watch)

I have a mitsubishi TV model WS-73411 , a month ago it shut off while I was watching it. Since then it has been shuting off more and more as time goes by. It shuts off an average of 4-5 times at nite...

The next time it shuts down (I presume the green power light goes off) do the self check this model has, on front of set press and hold both the menu and input buttons for at least five seconds and release both.

Power light will blink a 2 digit error code like : 1 blink, 2 blink and repeat it several times.

1,2 is no error detected but there are other codes.

Let me know what you find.

VCR, DVD, TV Connection

first let me say that a dvd player and a dvd recorder are different. the dvd player can only play dvd while a dvd recorder can both play and record dvd that is said. what i understand from what you write is currently is - out of your tv box into your dvd player then out of your player into your tv........ ok some dvd has two connections. line one and line two if your tv box is in line one then you should plug the rca cable in line two in. then you select line two on the dvd player then plug the other end to your vcr in line out so that is out of your vcr into line two of your dvd player.(some times one of the connection is at the front of your player hidden) if your dvd player only have one connection then you would have to plug out your tv box and replace it with the vcr cable and when you finish coping your vhs tape you plug in back your tv box to your dvd player. hope i could help.......... Put a tape in and eject it. It will then work. Just had this problem. CST IN means the VCR thinks it has a tape in. Trust me... Very fixable.

If it's that new call the place that it was purchased and see about manufacturer warranty... It should have a one-year parts and even that will help...
The problem you're describing is likely the center led or prisim. The unit thinks there is a tape in the tape path and attempting to load it. Not an expensive repair but highly complicated for the average person...

Some tapes will start and immediately shut down

the vcr is on threshold of belt life. try replacing (or cleaning with alcohol) the take-up reel belt. The vcr has a built-in time-out feature to protect the video tape. if it takes too long for things to happen, shut-down occurs.

Watching videos on a computer

Yes. DVDs are easy as you probably already know, you just need a DVD capable drive and appropreate software to play. VHS tapes are another matter altogether. You'll have to purchase something that will convert the analog signal from the VHS player to a digital signal your PC can use. I have a device I use to convert VHS tapes to DVD (ADS technologies) I could use to watch tapes but the software leaves a lot to be desred.
