This is a common problem with the origional realease of the ps2 the fat models, not the slim (but can happen in slims) it is either a lens adjustment problem or lens needs to be cleaned, google adjusting ps2 laser lens and you will find the solution, (this does involve taking the case apart so if it is under warrenty that is the way to go)

Mt PS2 is not reading any memory card, not even a new one. What can I do?

Take it into a games store and get them to try and fix it. (They will most likely take it in and test the console out and put one of their memory cards in and try it), and they will try to sort out the problem. =]

Every time i try to play a ps1 game in the ps2, i get a disk read error even though i am using a ps1 memory card and ps2 games work perfectly on it. i have the original ps2

Hi,the unit needs to have the laser reader lens cleaned but DON'T use regular rubbing alcohol.
Get pure stuff....the rubbing type leaves a glare on glass and plastic lenses.
Also ,the chrome rails that the laser moves along need to be cleaned and lubed with liquid silicone.
This method clears read problems most of the time.
That will do.

Take care.

Getting a disc error when turning on the ps2 with ps2 games, but it works with ps1 games...!

Theres a wheel in the disc drive that controls the elevation of the lens. To mod your ps2 to read burnt ps2 games ONE would alter the height of the lens by adjusting the wheel ever so slightly. There are online tutorials in the precise adjustments for different disks. (one height reads only ps1 games, another height reads ps1 and ps2 games, and one more height reads ps1/ps2 and burnt ps1/ps2 games) Your best bet would probably be to just purchase another ps2 used, but if you want to do it yourself, you can.

Playstation card

Your question is somewhat confusing, using a playstation 2 memory card, will have PS2 game saves on it, how would you play PS2 games on a PS1 from the save, you can't. If you just mean you are using a PS2 card for a PS1, the way a PS2 card saves data is different to a PS1 card, so it probably won't work You can use your PS1 memory cards in the PS2. You can only use the PS1 memory cards to save PS1 games that you are playing in your PS2. You can't save any PS2 game data to a PS1 memory card
