I need to replace the battery in my gateway 285e laptop, but do not know how to remove the battery

I am assuming you mean the CMOS battery. The operation is simply. On the bottom of the laptop are two removable panels. Remove the smaller of the two. Under the panel you may find a wireless communication card. If so remove the card using the catches on the sides of the card. You will need to remove the wires clipped to the card - be sure to note which color is attached to which terminal. Beneath the wireless card you will se the CMOS battery. Release the clip holding it in and replace with the same type of battery. Reconnect the wireless card, attach it wiring (the antenna) and put the cover back on the laptop. You're done.

If it is the primary power battery simply slide the catch on the bottom of the case (just below the battery) to the side and pull the battery out. The catch resets itself when you put the battey back in.

Need to replace the cmos battery

Hello that`s easy.

Open the case, and look for a small round shinny battery.

Press the release button, and the battery will pop out.
If not, use a small screwdriver, but don`t use force:
Here is a picture, how it looks like:

The battery type is a CR 2032, 3 volts watch type.
Insert the new battery the same way.

When you remove the battery, the cmos/ bios will be cleared, and the bios needs to be setup: clock, date, boot settings, etc.

A pc repair shop, can help you with renewing the battery.

Good luck

Wot is the default bios password

I am afraid that there is not a default password. Standard ie default is no password. if you have set a password and no longer remember it you may be able to erase it. but this is not recomended unless you know what you are doing, you could irreperably damage your notebook by doing so. I would advise you to take the laptop to the store where you purchased it and ask there for help These steps may not work depending on the BIOS configuration of your notebook and they may void your warranty so be aware.
  1. first remove the battery
  2. press the power button and hold it for approx. 7 seconds to make sure all power is drained from the circuits.
  3. using a screwdriver remove the screws on the bottom of the notebook until you can remove the plastic coverings.
  4. find the CMOS battery on the motherboard, it should look like a watch battery.
  5. remove the CMOS battery and leave it overnight.
  6. replace the CMOS Battery and reassemble your notebook.
  7. start your notebook and attempt to enter BIOS
Hope I was able to help

Where is the battery in an MPC ClientPro 414? How do I get to it, I need to replace it. Thanks!

The battery is fairly easy to replace on a CP414, but you need to be careful to avoid breaking the battery socket.

You will need a small Philips-head screw driver (#1, I think) and a small flat-blade screwdriver (for prying). A pair of tweezers will help too.

1. On the back of the system, remove the cable door. It is held in by 1 screw and wraps around the back/bottom of the system.
2. The battery is half-way under the optical drive. The only way to easily remove it is to remove the optical drive.
3. Remove the optical drive. It is held in by 1 screw near the bottom of the system (not the screw in the bottom-right corner of the back of the system, but the one just above that). With the screw removed you can push on the back of the optical drive by reaching in through the cable door you removed in step 1.
4. The battery has a sticker on it that protects it from shorting against the optical drive. This sticker is important, so save it if you can. If you can't save it, use some electrical tape or similar to prevent a short.
5. Peel back the end of the sticker that is closest to the optical drive frame and gently pry back the metal clip that holds the CMOS battery down. It should pop out fairly easily.

When you re-insert a new CMOS battery, make sure you insert the end under the metal clip first and then push down. Also, make sure it is properly aligned or you will probably break the battery socket.

Replacing the battery is much easier if the motherboard is removed first, but removing the motherboard adds about an hour to the whole process. If you want to go down that route, let me know and I'll give you some help.

Where is the location of the Cmos battery for my

You really need a service manual to try & locate the CMOS battery. With laptops the CMOS battery can be different on each model. These are often located on the motherboard below the keyboard, but a service manual should help you.

I need to change the connector at the laptop for the power lead. I need to find the part and how to get into the laptop to replace it.

Unless you have experience with electronics and circuit boards, you should NOT attempt this repair. Each laptop has different ways to open and things to be careful of. The cables are very fragile and to replace the power connector almost the whole unit has to be dis-assembled to get at the bottom of the motherboard. Most laptops have a multitude of screws to remove as well as "snap" type things to release. The first operation would be to remove the battery. Then the hard drive. Usually there is a plate above the keyboard that has to be removed next. The the keyboard has to be CAREFULLY removed. The LCD screen is disconnected and removed as a whole. Then CD drives, floppies, often PCMICA card and SD card interfaces and touch pads.
When finally you can get to the motherboard and remove it to get at the bottom to solder new connector it is a relief... BUT not so much as when you get it all back together and it works...

HINT, HINT: for future, make a right angle short jumper cord to plug into the laptop that you then plug the adapter into. This will unplug instead of yanking the laptop connector sideways and breaking it.

Demanding BIOS password

If you do not know the password, then you need to reset the CMOS. To do this, you need to locate the battery on the motherboard. Remove access covers from the bottom of the laptop and look for a silver watch type battery and remove it from the motherboard for about 3 minutes. Then insert it back and your CMOS should reset to factory defaults. This will remove the password. If you are unable to locate this battery, please check the manual or look online for battery location.
