You wrote in your problem description that it is an HDMI DVD player - if your TV has an HDMI input (most flat panel TVs do) then you should be using an HDMI cable. HDMI carries both the video and the audio signals from the DVD player to the TV so that is the only cable you will need. They can be expensive so buy the length of cable you need and not too much more. Also, stay away from Monster brand cables, they are a rip off.

What do I need to hook a HDTV up to an Onkyo TX-DS747 receiver

okay hello, you dont need a HDMI cable as it appears your receiver isnt equiped with that feature. The way you have to do this is if you have a source you run the video chord (yellow chord) then then left and right audio (red and white cable) run them from your souce such as satelite or dvd player or game console.you plug them into your input on your receiver then you run one video chord on the output port on your receiver this will put the sound through your receiver and put just the video to your tv.if your tv has a option to run audio out then you just reverse this pretty much. You run auudio left and right from the audio output on your tv to the input on your receiver.then on your menu on your tv make sure you go to speakers and set them to off and set it to output audio if this option is presented.

How do I hook up the dvd player

Hooking up the DVD player is considerably an easy task to carry out.
First you have to ensure that the DVD player is meant for your country as various countries support different voltages.
Next you should get a compatible RF cable UK models use a 21 pin chord while other countries use the normal jack pin to jack pin.
The chord usually comprises of three cables A red, white and Yellow.
Yellow goes to video out both ways while the other two colors go to audio out. DVD usually have only one yellow port behind them and the sound ports are usually labeled audion out.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

Sound is okay watching tv on hdtv - but crackles with dvd playing

If your DVD player supports HDMI or OPTICAL / DIGITAL audio then I would take a look at swapping to those type of connection first. This would help eliminate bad cords / connectors / electrical interference from other sources

Your TV has two hdmi inputs and optical so you have a choice

So i have had a ps3 for about 2 years now and the hdmi chord worked fine for 1 year and then all of a sudden i started lossing signal from the tv. If i wiggle the hdmi chord the picture will sometimes come...

Hi friend, see since your regular (component/composite) chord worked well so the problem is with your HDMI chord. It is losing connection with some internal wire try to use another HDMI cable if it still not works so problem may be with your HDMI port.

Composite/component cable works fine but the cost of graphics..... but still HDMI graphics are just too good...

Hope it will work for you.

RCA DRC277-A, No sound when played through a Samsung HDTV using the HDMI chord. Chord and TV seem to check out fine. Tried all buttons and menus I could find. Have set sound to PCM, etc.

There might be a setting in your tv's audio menu to enable your audio source, which is now hdmi (vs. the rca-type red and white audio cables). Once you select the type of audio you are using, the audio, you should hopefully be able to get sound from your dvd player now.
