Question about Dewalt 18v Battery Hammer Drill Dcd950 Dc925

1 Answer

I have 2 dewalt 18 volt hammer drills. The first one died about 2 years ago. The trigger seemed to mess up. I took it apart several times thinking I could fix it. I finally gave up on it. It's laid out in my garage since. I got another one and it lasted about 2 years, and the same thing happened to it. I took it apart also and to no avail. Both worked a little, and then stopped. I was thinking it was the trigger but now I'm not sure. I don't want to pay $ 50.00 + for a new trigger not knowing for sure. I'm wondering if it could be in the armature connections. Has anyone else had this type of problem? I kinda of hate to have (2) $ 300.00 drills setting on a shelf and not usable. Thanks for any help.

Hi, Take the drill apart using a star driver. When taking the chuck assembly from the yellow section have the drill chuch down to stop bits falling out. Once handle is apart popout the triggger assembly. Remove the two power leads from the assembly. Try a direct connection to the battery (polarity doesn't matter. If the motor goes it means that the trigger is U/S. Put a tester across the terminals (either set). You may have a short (as I had). It appears to me that the trigger is not user servicable. I used one from a DeWalt recip saw with a mod on the reverse lever. Works well.

Good luck.

My impact driver is not this model its a dc827 but it quit hammering it just free wheels if you just slightly pull the trigger is kinda works is there anything i can do to fix this prolbem?

The pinion on front of motor is slipping on motor shaft. It seems to be just a press fit. Seems like a flaw in design. I had same problem. I took my dw056 apart and took pinion off motor and pressed groves into motor shaft with side cutter pliers. then pounded pinion back onto motor shaft. We will see how long this lasts the motor shaft is a softer metal. I feel the motor shaft should be hardened steel like the pinion and have a shear pin or some sort of spline to attach to pinion. Would like Dewalt to offer fix for this as I only used dw056 a couple of times before I had problem.

Dewalt cordless drill dc988- drill motor works intermitantly when trigger is pulled. Works a little better as it warms up. Im thinking vsr switch, brushes, or motor/armature. please help...

Test the brushes by catching it in a stalled condition when you have it triggered, then rotate it slightly. If it takes off suspect the brushes or a dead segment on the comutator.

If it doesn't respond to this, then consider the VSR trigger... open it and test by bypassing it when in stalled condition...

You should try to charge the battery again. Or you can try to fix it or then its time to get a new battery.
