I have Sony play station 2 model SCPH 75004 which is failing to play PS1 DVD and CDs. I hear it requires a mod chip. Where can I get the mod chip and how is it installed to the PS2.

ruben, the PS1 is the only system created with the capability of adding a mod chip. When they first came out, the PS1Generation 1(PSX)could play burned games and DVD's. Sony discovered that it created an issue with the excessive wear of the cd drive, so they recalled the system. Then they re-released it and it couldn't play DVD's anymore. The PS2 could already play DVD so it has no mod chip function.

How to fix rsod on pcsx2 0.9.7

The infamous Red Screen of Desk -- A.K.A. Insert a Format Disc screen.

This screen is NOT asking for a disc to FORMAT the PS2. What it IS asking for is a PS2 or Playstation format [or a better word -- PS2 or Playstation TYPE disc. A disk with Playstation 1 or Playstation 2 type software on it -- in other words, a ps1 or ps2 game]. It's basically asking for a CD or DVD with software that the playstation can play. This red screen occurs when you insert an XBOX game or a burned/copied PS2 or PS1 game. What the PS2 is stating is that is cannot play this format [or type of] disc. It's asking you to insert a format [or type of] disc that it can recognize and use.

The most common reason for this screen appearing, if your PS2 does NOT have a mod chip, is a dirty lens. Try cleaning your lens and this should go away. What happens is that the lens becomes dirty and does not recognize the disc you inserted as being a PS2 or PS1 format [or type of] disc. So it's asking you to insert one. If your PS2 does have a mod chip installed, it could be a problem with the chip or the disc you burned. We don't install or sell mod chips, so we can't help you with that one.

Getting a disc error when turning on the ps2 with ps2 games, but it works with ps1 games...!

Theres a wheel in the disc drive that controls the elevation of the lens. To mod your ps2 to read burnt ps2 games ONE would alter the height of the lens by adjusting the wheel ever so slightly. There are online tutorials in the precise adjustments for different disks. (one height reads only ps1 games, another height reads ps1 and ps2 games, and one more height reads ps1/ps2 and burnt ps1/ps2 games) Your best bet would probably be to just purchase another ps2 used, but if you want to do it yourself, you can.

Got a Japanese Playstation 1... can't interact with it

Two options:

Buy a solderless Mod Chip online to bring it back to life; which would be hard to find being that the PS1 is not mainstream anymore. ( Might get lucky and find one at www.eurasia.nu ) Also heard of people using a boot disc with a 8 GB memory card to Mod the older playstations; don't think that will work for you since it doesn't even load a game.

Another options would be to clean that lense like a Doctor's Office. In the past my lenses have got extremely dirty, so dirty that when I cleaned them with a Q-tip lightly dipped in a cleaning solution the Q-tip was black before I finished.

You should consider getting a newer system like a PS3 or a PS2; they have several PS2 systems at a Pawn Shop or Used Game Store and all the PS1 games play on the PS2.

Playstation card

Your question is somewhat confusing, using a playstation 2 memory card, will have PS2 game saves on it, how would you play PS2 games on a PS1 from the save, you can't. If you just mean you are using a PS2 card for a PS1, the way a PS2 card saves data is different to a PS1 card, so it probably won't work You can use your PS1 memory cards in the PS2. You can only use the PS1 memory cards to save PS1 games that you are playing in your PS2. You can't save any PS2 game data to a PS1 memory card

Games not supported

Some games won't be supported since they are region specific. And if it's a PS2 game then it may not have the patch needed to play it. Here in the states about 200 PS1 and PS2 games are not recognized by the PS3. And if it's not an American region game, then we have to have a mod chip for it to work.
