Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Toshiba AC/DC Adapter model number ADP-75SB AB for my satellite computer is not working anymore. I have tried different troubleshooting efforts but all have been unsuccessful in getting my computer to adhere to the charge from the charger. It is under two years old. I hope that is not the longevity of that device. What do I need to do to fix it or get a new one or is there a universal chord I can by for the time being and then send this one back. What are my options? A lot of the devices in my house are Toshiba and I like the brand, I don't want to go astray. Please review and advise.

Hello,

Is the ac adapter detected?

If YES, and it doesn't charge the battery, but it turns ON the laptop it means that the battery is the one not holding a charge.

If NO. Try to change the power cord that goes to the wall (that part is detachable) with good known power cord. If it does the same then definitely there's a problem with the ac adapter. You can contact the Toshiba sales department (1-800-8674422) or toshiba direct (1-800-3160920).

If the computer powers ON, both ac adapter and battery are detected but no display, then the problem is the system board.

Dead battery? Try another cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs.

Plugged in not charging

There could be several things wrong. You could have a broken DC jack on your motherboard. To prove this, wiggle the DC jack with the adapter plugged in. If the charging light comes on when you wiggle the jack, then your jack is broken. You could also have a defective AC adapter.

My adp-75sb ab power cord stopped working all of a sudden what happened? ive had it for about 3 years if that helps

Well, sometimes thing just die and usually a year or 2 is the average lifespan of a charger. Not to mention that there may not be any rips or tears but there could be internal damage or perhaps a manufacture defect of some sorts. More than likely it either died of age or because of consumer use. Your simple solution would be to get a new charger.

Check the voltage output from the charger and see if it is within the range that is stamped on the charger body (eg: 20 volts) If it is below or above this, then the charger is faulty. If the green light is flashing on the charger, it means that power is "not being accepted" by the laptop and this indicates a faulty charging port / circuit.

Possible cause: 1. Power adapter failure.
2. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution: First of all, test the power adpater. Make sure the apdapter outputs correct voltage. It's possible that the outup voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damge. Test your laptop with anohter known good power adapter.
If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likley it's the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard.

Computer doesn't completely boot-up. Little history, needed a new ac adapter and bought a 3rd party/universal adapter (from 2 different vendors) and either adapter worked. Did get power to the computer but...

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced

Toshiba m35-s456 , cant turned on

Your model of Toshiba Satellite is well known for the power plug to go bad. the pin in the back breaks the solder on the system board. Toshiba actually got sued over the issue and they used to fix this for free, the bad news is that they don't anymore.

To check if this is the case on the back of your laptop where you plug your ac adapter see if the pin will wigle with a screw driver or something. If it does then this is the problem.

The good news is that you probably can take it to a computer repair shop or a toshiba repair center to get it fixed.

If you want toshiba customer supports phone number it is 1-800-457-7777
