Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My magic chef dryer YG20FN3 is squeaking a lot all the time. I have changed the belt. but it still squeaks. Could it be the rollers or the idler pulley? How do I check? I prefer not to buy and replace unless it will help.

drum rollers, drum glides or belt idler assembly, all these items can be found on eBay. note the routing of the belt, the idler assemblage is next to the motor. this website shows the rollers/glides and how to get into the dryer, hope this helped Tim:

GE Dryer DDE7900 squeaking.

it could be the drum belt that has glazed from age or the front drum glides/rollers or even a rear bearing on the drum

Dryer squeaks some of the time, but not all the time , I cleaned the vent line and inside the vent on the dryer itself . Model # DBXR453ET, this is a electric dryer G.E.

likely either the 2 rollers at the back of the drum or the idler pulley...small plastic pulley at the bottom keeps tension on the belt . the bearing can be oiled temporarily but will squeak again :)

When the dryer begins its process, a long loud "squeaking" sound erupts, the dryer still dries, but this sound may last 5 - 7 minutes, then the squeak diminishes to a soft squeaking sound the remainder of...

The noise is likely coming from a roller which keeps tension on the belt which wraps around the drum. This roller will sometimes squeal as it wears on the shaft to which is mounted Follow the instructions below to replace the Idler roller.

Pull the dryer out enough to get behind it. there is a lower black panel to be removed by taking out all the 5/16" screws around the edge. Swing the panel aside and look into it. You will see the motor to the right. The roller should be between you and the motor. The configuration looks like the picture at the link below.

The belt goes in the grooves on the motor pulley and the flat side runs around the idler pulley, according to the GE chart on this image.

Dryer makes a squeaking noise

If your dryer is noisy, check these:

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

thanks and please do not forget to accept the solution
