No power to the microwave, after storm.

The low voltage brownout let the oven draw too much current, and likely an internal fuse failed. Typically after removing a dozen Philips screws you can take off the cover and locate the fuse, which you can match and replace. [If it still has "power" (like the lights come on) but has stopped heating, then it could be any number of other issues (main capacitor fail, etc)] I've changed a fuse or two in my day, and years ago a failed capacitor, with success.

Then you have blown a fuse. Check inside the oven chamber and look for missing powder paint or signs of arcing, if so dispose of the microwave. If the inside is good remove all the screws and remove the cover. Replace the fuse. If the magnetron was making louder noises prior then replace the magnetron. Since the fuse went the giant capacitor is likely bad. While the cabinet is open make sure to look for burned wires, check the continuity of thermal cutoffs, and check the main circuit-board for burned traces or components. The relays in most electronics are known for arcing (spot welding) and staying in the wrong position. Tap them hard with the back end of a screwdriver. During all of this use safe electrical practices by having the power cord unplugged. The capacitor could still have a high charge on it so be careful.

We had a lighting storm a few days ago and now my Amana radarange will not do anything, can this be as simple as a fuze? and if so can that be replaced without removing from the wall? thanks, Dean

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
Yes it could certainly be the fuse and that is where i would first check and if it checks out good than you may have a fried controle board or even fried wires inside the microwave
You may even have a bad power inverter also ok
Sometimes the boards can be more expensive than the unit costs you originally so be wise to this ok
keep me posted on what you have found
best regards Mike

Lg LMV1630st stainless steel microwave oven

I'm confused. If it's 6 weeks old, you can get it repaired free.

If it's 1-1/2 years old, the manufacturer will cover the part cost of the magnetron (assuming that's what's wrong) and you will have to pay for labor and any other needed parts.

Also, the subject line mentions a model LMV1630ST while your message body mentions model LMV1680BB.

For Goldstar / LG / customer service, help, call 1-800-243-0000 (M-F, 7am-8pm CT, Sat 8-5 CT) and choose the appropriate prompt from the menu or visit here.

Chances are your problem is a bad magnetron, but it may be another high voltage part.

Microwave started smoking and stopped working

Did it smell electrical or like something arcing?

I would suspect your magnetron or high voltage transformer has failed.

Please write back with your brand and model number if you need further help.
