Hi,
Welcome to Fixya! It's really important that you have a secured wireless connection so that you will be the only one that can access your own network.I believe that when you're trying to connect wirelessly it's not asking for the network key or other users are able to connect to your network. Please follow the steps below for you to be able to make your connection secure.

1. Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter."
2. Use "admin" as the username in the pop-up box and " admin " as the password as well. For most Westell Modem, if the configuration is in the default settings, the password is " password " and once you type it, it will allow you to personalized it.
3. Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup."

4. Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP.
5. Click on Wireless Settings.
6. Click on Basic Wireless Settings.

7. Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password which you can see on the blank space beside the WEP key.

8. Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key.

Hope this will help...Thank you for using FixYa!

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

How to set a password for westell 327w dsl

the best way to describe what you need to do is to check the device manual. the section is 12.4.2 WIRELESS SECURITY, here's the manual
you should also check and setup a new password for your router configuration page, section 14.3.

hope that helps!

How to configure Westell VersaLink 327W to work with ATT internet

I bought one of these wireless routers a while back and found that these can work well with At&t simply by logging into the router (192.168.1.1), creating an account with your At&t user ID and password, and enabling PPPoE with the VCI set to 8 and the VPI set to 35. Worked well for me for about two years now. Hope this helps

We've misplaced the WEP key for our VersaLink 327W modem. Where would I find it?

Howdy,

Logon: 192.168.1.254 [or type in: "launchmodem" no quoted - one word] > Click: Wireless tab > Click: Configure Wireless > In the Wireless SSID: This box will show your WEP key.

(Enter any administrative user name and password if you have security locked to access the "Configure Wireless" zone.)

[This is different from the account name and password used to sign on to your ISP and it may not even be set. Is security is not activated, you will freely pass into the Configure Wireless zone.]

Good luck,

J

My brother just gave me a Westell versa-link model 327w router. there isn't any instruction/opeartor's manual with it. is there a web site with instructions on how to go about hooking this up? Thanx Wayne

The 327w router is distributed by Verizon, an internet service provider. On their website you find tons of info on this model.

Go to the Verizon support page and enter

<westell versalink 327w> in the search field.

Furthermore here some interesting info for you:

Westell model 327w

you can run another ethernet cable from your westell modem to your laptop. hence, if you want your laptop to connect wirelessly, it must have a wireless card/adapter inside. if it already has a wireless adapter, it should automatically detect your wireless network and you just need to connect to it (note: you need to enter the correct wireless security/network key if you have enabled it on your modem). by default the serial number is the ssid of the router and the wireless security is disabled. but if you are not sure of your wireless security, log on to the modem's web user interface by typing http://192.168.1.1 on your web browser's address. then go to the wireless section and verify your wireless settings from there.

hope this'll help you.

ciao!

Forgot the Network Key

Log into the Router and go to the Wireless Config. The router address would be the default gateway for the connected PC; most likely 192.168.1.1 or something of that nature. There you can create a new network key or use a converter to convert the hex to decimal.

Westell versalink 327w i need default password

If the 327 was never set up for wireless you need to connect to it with an Ethernet cable and plug that into your Mac and one of the RJ45 ports on the back of the 327. Type http://192.168.1.1 into your browser, this should take you to the Westell Home Page (Your Router). The default for wireless in this router is disable. There are tabs across the top on the page, select Configuration>Wireless>Basic. This opens the Wireless Operation Window. If Wireless is disabled, click arrow to enable. You can also enable and disable encryption in this same window and if you choose to use the basic WEP in the device, the WEP key is on the label on the bottom of the router. If all this is good your laptop should be able to detect the wireless connection, the default is the serial number on the bottom of the router so you will know which connection is yours. REMEMBER TO CLICK SAVE before exiting the window! Hope this helps.
