Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

1 Answer

At startup, my mom's laptop goes to the usual Dell screen, then stays on the black screen with the blinking typing marker ( _ ). It doesn't go to Windows XP and there's no error message. It's a Dell Latitude, D600 or 610, I think. I don't have it with me at the moment, I have to use the library until we can get it fixed. There's nothing wrong with the screen, but if I try typing too much on the keyboard, it starts beeping at me when I type at that screen. I ran the BIOS Diagnostic and it found nothing wrong, but we don't have a Dell support CD or a CD for Windows XP. Any suggestions? Mom can't afford to take it into a shop right now.

Your only option buddy,is to find and reinstall the original or a compatable operating system.
Perhaps you should check [Manufacturers site***!0]if you can "restore to factory settings " (using a hot key sequence)---FN/F10 (for example)(!)(most pc's are different, thats just an example!
Could also be a "harddrive failure" listen carefully to the pc and see if you can hear the harddrive hard at work!--there will be some fan noise-but see if you can hear the drive working.good luck!!

Screen do not on

Does the screen show anything at all during boot-up (BIOS screen, startup info?) If so, try connecting an external monitor after startup and see if the issues persist when setting the video output to the external monitor. If that doesn't work try booting in safe mode to last known configuration that worked (usually done by hitting F2, F5, or F8 shortly after powering on.

Dell Inspiron 1545 Booting Problem [Black Screen].

Insert the original Windows CD-ROM into the DVD-drive, and see if the computer will "boot" from that disk. If so, then it could be your 'C:' drive which is having the problem, and thus not "booting" your computer from it.

I turn my Dell Latitude D600 laptop on and startup screen shows as usual but then it goes to a black screen. Can you help?

If your computer keeps on running after it turns black the problem maybe is the LCD. However if the computer is not running after it went black then possible problem is with the MOBO (Mainboard)

Hope it helps.

I cant get the svideo to stay on after initial startup

Did you try pressing the FN (function) key and F8?
F8 should have what looks like a computer or tv on it in blue.
Hope that works!

Dell inspiron 1525 notebook will not start windows

Usually this happens when the vista boot loader fails. During boot up, keep tapping F8 and then select Disable Automatic Restart... and get the stop error code which usually starts with 0x

Dell Latitude CPt screen is black at startup and stays.

It sounds like your PC isn't completing its POST. (pre operating system test)

This is usually caused by faulty hardware. Your best bet is to first remove anything you have recently installed. If that doesn't apply/work, try removing various hardware devices (CD/DVD drives, memory, USB devices) until you get the machine to boot up.

If even after removing every piece of hardware possible the machine still exhibits the same behavior, it is likely a problem with the motherboard (or other "permanent" hardware).

Dell latitude D610 start up screen goes to black quickly and stays black

It sounds like your onboard graphics has possibly failed. If you have an additional monitor to connect to it you can see if the additional video gives any video. If it doesn't during startup then you have to replace the system board.
