Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone

1 Answer

OK, so we have a iPhone that was previously jailbroken so it could be used with a t-mobile sim card. Then it froze when we tried to update itunes on it. Have not been able to get it back to any kind of working condition. Tried getting into DFU mode and then restoring in Itunes, but it doesn't work - we're out of options. all we want is to get it back to it's factory settings to use with an AT&T account

Ok so i put my simcard in and it said locked sim so wat do i do

If you bought the iPhone used, it could be already locked to a carrier. If the iPhone wasnt previously purchased at full price (or jailbroken) then it will be locked to a specific carrier like Rogers or AT&T. If thats the case, you will have to contact that carrier and ask if they will unlock it, otherwise jailbreaking the iPhone can unlock it aswell, you can find guides through google on how to do it, Apple doesn't support it.

If you did buy the phone new, then try plugging into iTunes (make sure iTunes is fully updated, i think 10.3 is then newest). If it recognizes it and doesn't activate the SIM card, there will be an option to restore the iPhone (Erase and reinstall the operating system. If it doesn't recognize it at all through iTunes, follow this article to force it into Recorvery mode, which can let you restore it. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

I installed the last update of Itunes iOS 4.0 and after that my Iphone 3gs is not recognizing my Iphone anymore.

You mean the iPhone does not recognize the SIM, is it?
That's your iPhone must have been previously jailbroken and unlock. And you accidentally remove it by updating.
Don't worry, I will guide you on how to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone. Read my tips on the links below:

My iphone runs with t mobile and i hooked it up

Yes, you would need it to be jailbroken and unlocked again. You can try to learn how over the internet, or contact me, I may be able to help.

Restoring or updating through iTunes will always (well usually) break your unlock.
