Connect an external monitor on your computer. If you saw windows coming up on external monitor, there's a need for you to send the computer to the nearest service center to get the graphics cards and LCD checked. If it will still give you black screen upon boot up, just re-install Windows.

    1. Disconnect all external devices (printers, USB hubs, USB drives, etc...)

    and then boot up.

If this corrects the issue then add the devices back one at a time until you

discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any updated

    drivers\software for the device.

    2. Use the"Last known good configuration" from the Windows Advanced Options

    menu.

If this option resolves the issue then look for any updates or software

installs that may have caused the problem.

    3. Boot to Safe Mode from the Windows Advanced Options menu.

If you can get into safe mode then the issue could be driver or software

    related.

From within Safe Mode run a System Restore.

    4. Perform a Clean Boot

Have a black line across the screen on my Toshiba 32AV502R LCD TV, no matter what input I'm using. It started as a bunch of visual "noise" and after turning it off and on several times,...

Hello,

All Plasma and LCD TV have boards that control vertical and horizontal output to their respective areas. They are connected to the screen by ribbon cables. If one of these boards fails all together, has a failed chip, a bad connection, or a bad ground somewhere it will result in a black line in the area of that board. A bad ribbon cable connection on the bottom will result in a vertical black bar though the screen. Many times resetting the connection will fix it, if the ribbon cable has been nicked there could be a severed connection. They an sometimes be fixed, but it is a pain. An yes I have done it, but the bar is gone. The same will happen if the chip that outputs to that area opens. The connectors are the first place to look paying close attention to the cable, they are extremely delicate so great care must be taken
Good luck in solving the problem.

My toshiba satallite l305-s5909 wont display a screen. I turn it on and after the toshiba logo goes away the screen turns to black with a funny symbol and cursor blinking in the top left corner

Restart your laptop, as soon as it powers on (even before you see the logo), repeatedly tap on F8 to get to the advanced boot menu. Select the option for Last Known Good Configuration and see if it would boot up. If not, Repeat the procedure but this thime, choose safe mode. If you're able to boot to safe mode, you can just do a system restore to a date when it was working fine.

You'll have to have it serviced. Most likely the hinges and or the lcd brackets are broken. It's not something the average home user should fix themselves.

Black line

Called ghost lines or banding. I researched on toshiba thread LCD screen bad. I have same problem purchased HL196 4/07 problem appeared 1 year and 9 months ago no extended warranty. If still under warranty call toshiba. LCD screen more expensive then orginal price of TV. Should file class action lawsuit for selling defective screens.
