No .. it can also be recirculated . you will need charcoal filters if you do so. There is a specific charcoal filter for each microwave hood. Any appliance part dealer would carry it ( you will need to give them the micro hood model number ) or you can order them online through Whirlpool parts website ( whirlpool owns maytag)

I did not find an EXACT match to your model number, but I did find an owner's manuals for the Maytag UVM1152 series that may work for you.

If this is a Maytag Microwave/Over the Range Hood Combo, you can go to managmylife.com and download or print for FREE. Just enter the model number as "UVM1152" under the "Manuals" link and review the manual listed to see if it will work for your oven.

For your convenience, here's a direct:

There's also an installation manual available.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Why double filter on Maytag Microwave

If your range hood or microwave recirculates back in to the room.

Both filters are required. The mesh filter catches the grease & air particulate. The carbon filter should be changed regularly www.HoodFilterFactory.com ( avoid range fires that spread quickly) & clears the recirculated air from smoke, odors, & airborne particulate.

With yours venting to the outside, you ONLY need the mesh filter. These filters should be cleaned regularly ( Avoid mentioned hazard) & should be replaced when you can no longer clean them enough to see through them when holding up to the light.

Good Luck

Have whirlpool gold accuwave micro hood combo model# GH51884XPS5

The inspector is correct, air should be coming through the top louvers, although you sometimes will have a little air coming from the sides and back. Drop the microwave and see which way the blower is rotated, towards the louvers or towards the back or top. Some units also have a panel that blocks the venting from going the wrong way. I have a Maytag microwave, model# MMV5165BA and it has no heat.Everything displays and vent works but no heat. Can you suggest anything before I toss it out?

If it operates as normal but items don't seem to get hot it probably is a Magnatron failure (microwave producer). More times than not the repair / replacement of a Magnatron these days is not worth the investment, especially if the microwave is 4 years old or older ! You should be able to replace your microwave with a similar featured microwave / hood for about $300 to $400. You might try a JVM1750DMWW by GE great micro/hood for about $300, includes one touch sensor cook capabilities,300 CFM vent fan, removable rack, option to turn the turntable on or off, 1000 watts of cooking power. Good luck !

Replace vent over stove with microwave & the

So are you saying that the vent hole doesn't line up with the microwave vent hole? I had a similar problem, it didn't matter since most of the new over the stove microwaves can vent back into the house as an option.

Recirculating over the range micro does not take care of steam

Mayny reason. Does it vent outside? If not you are not getting a great amount of air flow. Are you filters clean? Dirty filters will stop max air movement. These are not the best machines for moving air but they sure are great spacemakers. Not sure if this can be fixed by any means other than a true vent hood.

Change the venting from internal to external?

Hello staufferbi,
It is possible to redirect the vent to the outsied but it is not a simple task. First off, you will need to remove the micro from the wall cavity and reposition the blower so that it vents out the top and not the front, then cut a hole in the cabinet above the micro ( lined up to accept the rectangular duct ) These tasks require fairly good carpenmtry skills and may not be suitable for the novice.. In any event, if you do attempt this.. then once you have the duct vented through the cabinet from the top of the microm you will need to attach that to wall vent feedthru. This normally means converting the rectangular duct to 4inch round and using an elbow. Needless to say, it can be done but is fairly involved. I did not mention anything about getting a 4 inch hole thru the outside wall and not thru a wall stud.,. Outside walls are typically bearing walls and although your roof won't cave in if you cut a hole thru a stud, it isn't advisable. Then you have to make sure it is sealed thru the wall cavity and properly cut into your siding. As I said before..it can be done but don't think it is a little job..
Good luck
Rick
