Your refrigerator does not have a conventional defrost timer. it has an adaptive defrost control board. it looks like a white plastic box with a wire harness plugged into it. it may be inside the refrigerator with the control knobs. the problem could also be caused by the defrost heater or thermostat, both in the freezer behind the block of ice. frigidaire glhs269zcb2

Large Ice Build up on top inside back of fridge unit.

Could be the auto-defrost has stopped working. Most modern frost-free fridges have a heating element behind the liner where the cooling element is and the ice forms. Between the thermostat controlled periods of cooling the heating element should switch on for a short time to melt any ice that has formed and the resulting water forms into droplets that roll down the fridge liner until it is channelled into a drain leading to a tray mounted on the electric motor. The warmth from the motor evaporates the water and completes the maintenance-free frost-free system.

Possibilities are faulty wiring/connections, defrost timer, defrost element.

The defrost timer could be integral with the thermostat.

Some older fridges had a manual switch to start the defrost process.

Hello there,
When your refrigerator begins to have ice at the back, it is known as ice build up. There is no leakage anywhere, it is just that there is a component or the other that is being faulty inside the unit of the refrigerator. The defrost unit is where the problem is from.
The defrost process is done automatically and the process involves the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and the defrost timer. Once one of them or more becomes faulty, ice will begin to form at the back of the refrigerator.
You will have to test the defrost timer, defrost heater and defrost thermostat in order for you to be able to tell which is faulty and need to be replaced.
You can go through these tips if you intend to fix this yourself. Defrost thermostat http://www.fixya.com/support/r10513592-test_defrost_thermostat http://www.fixya.com/support/r10513650-replace_defrost_thermostat defrost heater http://www.fixya.com/support/r10523771-test_defrost_heater http://www.fixya.com/support/r10523754-replace_defrost_heater defrost timer http://www.fixya.com/support/r10523722-test_defrost_timer http://www.fixya.com/support/r10523742-replace_defrost_timer

If there is noise of the fan rubbing with the frost build up on the freezer then it is confirmed that the defrost timer is faulty. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge. However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Maytag msd2641kew fridge side is not cooling its warm . freezer is still cold notice some of the ice look like it was starting to melt a litte. turned freezer up acouple of hours ago stuff is staying...

Sounds like a defrost problem, is there ice on the back wall of the freezer? If so the defrost system has failed. The most common repair is a Part# 67004757 defrost thermostat and adaptive defrost board Part# 67004704. Even with the parts in your hand, you will need to de-ice the freezer to replace the thermostat in the freezer section, then unplug unit to replace the adaptive defrost board located in the controls of the refrigerator section. Normally it can take about an hour to complete.
Good Luck

Freezer works great, but refrigeration section stopped working

Check the door seals on fridge and freezer to make sure there are NO leaks.
Try manually adjusting air flap that controls air from freezer to fridge, the flap may be frozen or the actuator that controls the flap may be faulty.

The bottom of my frigidaire is not cooling properly; and the freezer works great; is it a minor problem i can fix

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
