How does a dehumidifier work

exactly the same way an airconditioner does but in reverse and does not provide any air heat/cooling

a change in gas pressure(compressor) over an partial obstruction(oraface) changes it''s temperature simple physics results in pulling heat/moisture from surrounding air and condenses it drops water into bucket by force of gravity chilled moisture free air gets sent out of case thru slots
tip

Dehumidifier VS. Air conditioner

A dehumidifier is basically the same thing as an air conditioner but both coils (condenser and evaporator) are in the same unit meaning a dehumidifier exhaust warm air in the same room it is in. running a dehumidifier would make an air conditioner run more because of the warm exhaust, when you run an air conditioner it acts like a dehumidifier and dries the air. As far as saving energy it all depends on the size of the AC and dehumidifier and the size of the room. If you want warm dry air, use a dehumidifier; if you want cool dry air run the AC but not both.
How do all these parts fit together to pull moisture from the air? It's fairly simple, but very effective:
  1. A fan collects air from the surrounding area and pulls it into the dehumidifier.
  2. As the air passes through, it comes into contact with the dehumidifier's cooled coils. These coils use condensation to pull moisture from the air. The collected moisture remains on the coils and drips into the dehumidifier's reservoir.
  3. The dehumidifier reheats the air and exhausts it back into the room.
A dehumidifier usually has a removable plastic bucket for are reservoir; most buckets also have a place where you can hook up a hose so the collected water can drain straight into a floor drain or pump. This frees you from having to remember to dump out the water. But don't worry too much about the reservoir overflowing -- most dehumidifiers also have an automatic shut-off. If you're using a dehumidifier in extremely moist conditions, however, or if you need to keep your dehumidifier on all the time, you should look into a unit with a built-in condensate pump, which regularly pumps water out of the unit's reservoir rather than simply relying on gravity to empty it as a hose does.

How to recharge a dehumidifier with refrigerant

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FDF50S, is not removing moisture from the air, and you are wondering how to recharge it with refrigerant. First, I suggest making sure that there is a minimum of 12 inches clearance around your dehumidifier. This will help for the air flow. Secondly, make sure that the temperature where your appliance is located is between 41 degrees F and 96 degrees F. If it comes down to you having to recharge your dehumidifier, this is typically not a do it yourself fix, as there are no step by step instruction manuals for this. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

It looks and sounds like it works good but it is not pulling any moisture out of the air. It will run for days and there will only be a little bit of water in the bucket?

the refrigerant r134a has leaked out,you need to have it recharged, this is normal for most de-humidifiers after 2 to3 years of use

Bucket not filling, unit seems to be making more noise

Hi,

If you are running and not pulling moisture first check air flow. Vacuum the front and back grills and make sure the coils are clean. If you have good air flow the cause of the problem is most like a sealed system issue. This is most commonly a refrigerant (freon) leak. check your use and care manual to find how long the warranty on the system is, sometimes it is as long as 5 years. If it is out of warranty then the repairs are more costly than a new unit.

106.57 fan runs does not work

It is dry this time of year. There may not be any water to pull out of the air.

Chris, as you may know, a dehumidifier is nothing more than a 'de-tuned' AC unit in a small package. If you are sure you have excess moisture in the air, (ideal humidity is 50%) and you have tried running a fan to circulate the air where the unit is located, your unit may require professional service.

Dehumidifier not collecting moisture

Normal 0 When you push the power button, the blower fan comes on. In a few minutes you should hear a second "click"--that is your compressor starting. Do you hear that second click?

Dehumidifier

After reading comments and complaints from other frustrated Maytag owners, I just went out and bought a new LG EnergyStar dehumidifier. I'm taping the receipt inside a plastic bag, along with the user manual, to the side of the machine. Hope this one works for a LONG time! Ronnisue
