Double check your power cord installation. The following link explains in detial how a power cord is to be installed and the differences between the 3 and 4 wire configurations:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

There is a difference in how the power cords are installed. Pay particular attention to how you have the ground and neutral wires terminated. If installed incorrectly, the dryer may not run, you could damage the appliance, or you could create an electric shock hazard. If you have questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Can i switch the plug on my dryer

If you change the plug on your dryer to a three prong and plug it in that way it will work, however it will not be up to the latest electrical codes where the dryer needs to have its own ground, not share that ground with a neutral. I would recommend running a new wire 10/3 with ground with a new four prong outlet (note: if you already have the 10/3 wire there you can just as easily change the outlet; red and black are hot wires, white is your neutral, and the bare copper is your separated ground) . However if you would like to just change the plug to a three prong you have to make sure your ground bar is tied to your neutral bar and there you only have three wires, 2 hot and one neutral.

Just brougth used maytag neptune dryer.model MDE3000AYW

If you are connecting a power cord with a 3-wire configuration, you match the corresponding wire colors from the power cord to the wires on the terminal block in the back of the dryer. The correct color-code is as follows:

RED - HOT (120VAC)
BLACK - HOT (120VAC)
WHITE - NEUTRAL (0VAC)*

*There should be a ground strap or ground wire connected to neutral at the terminal block in a 3-wire configuration.

NOTE: If the wires are not color-coded, the outer two wires (Left and Right) are the HOT leads. The center conductor is Neutral.

If you have any questions, you can refer to this link for further explanation:

This explains the difference in 4-wire and 3-wire configurations. I hope this helps you.

Im tryin to change from a three wire to a 4 on a maytag Atlantis. Saw some photos... But no luck I have the red on the right white in the middle black and green on the left. And it's not workin

Connect to three post terminal - black and red are interchangeable and belong on the right and left terminals. white goes to center, green goes to machine chasis not to any terminal post

Need to change cords

If your dryer has only the three treminal block you should change the recptacle to a 3 wire. The difference in the 3 and 4 recptacle is that you have 2 hots, a neutral, and a ground prong. Find your dryer breaker in the box and just use the 2 hot and the neutral. Unless you can find a four terminal block for the dryer and even then would it mount to the dryer? Probably not. The extra ground simply grounds the cabinet to prevent damage. Your four wire recptacle may have a red and black(hot) a white(neutral) and a green or plain copper(ground)

Need to change the cord on my Maytag MDE6000AYW from 3 prong to 4 prong. The (4) prong cable has black, white, green, red cables. Which colored cable connects to which terminal inside the dryer?

BLACK and RED are 110-120VAC each. WHITE is NEUTRAL - does not carry power. GREEN is GROUND. The Black, Red, and White Wires should connect to the terminal block & should correspond the colored wires already connected to the block from the machine. The Green wire should be grounded to the equipment chassis. I hope this answers your question.
