There is a "wait" period because someone has entered the wrong code 3 times.
You can try waiting with the key in the run position for 45 minutes. Just watch out for the lights coming on as that would just kill the battery.
Don't start it.... just leave the key all the way forward in the run position for about an hour.
The radio should say "code" after 45 min or so.
If you don't have the proper code, Just call any jeep dealer and talk to someone on the service drive... tell them you changed your battery and the radio wants a code that you don't have.
They should help you through the problem.
You can look in the glove box and in the owners manual for a code sticker.... Some people stick them to the back of the glove box or on the radio page of the owners manual.
It looks as though tyou are using the wrong code
To see if it can be checked...see below
The radio SERIAL NUMBER is required for a code
First remove the radio from the dashboard.
Then post the radio make+model plus all the letters+numbers on any labels, barcodes or stamped in the metal casing.
This information can then be used to see if a code can be calculated
Is the problem that you did not put in the code soon enough, or that you tried three wrong codes and locked it out? I don't think there is a time limit, but all of us have punched in wrong codes and locked out our radios before. If the display says WAIT, you tried three wrong codes.
If it is locked out, you have to drive for an hour with the radio turned on before it will let you try again. If you disconnect the battery during that hour, you just reset the 1-hour timer back to zero so you have to wait longer.
If You know the code:
1. Turn radio On 2. Display say "Code in" 3. Enter the Code by memory station buttons (4 digits)
If You enter wrong code for the first time:
1. Turn radio off. 2. Turn radio on 3. Press and hold the band "~" button 4. Display shows ==== 5. Wait till display say "code in" 6. Enter the code by mem. station buttons.(4 digits)
Important: You mast wait by Radio ON in = = = = condition, and not in - - - -!
The max. waiting time is 90 min.
TIP: Tested by PU-1570A Eeprom 93C46 1. Radio Off 2. Press and hold the Band "~" Button. 3. Turn the radio ON 4. Enjoy!
ERROR 3 usually means that you have entered at least 7 wrong codes ...so make sure you have the correct code
To reset from ERROR3 leave it SWITCHED ON....UNDISTURBED until it automatically resets itself.
This can take several hours as the waiting time doubles after each wrong code
If you require help with the correct code then read below ===========================================
First make sure that the code has not been noted somewhere
within the car (underneath the ash tray, glove box , rear of sun visor etc)
To see if your code is available here for free then the radio will have to be
removed from the dashboard (and if you are lucky, someone may have written the
code on the casing ) .
If not then POST A BRAND NEW QUESTION
quoting the radio MAKE+MODEL plus ALL the LETTERS+NUMBERS on
ANY LABELS ,BARCODES or STAMPED IN THE METAL CASING
Also quote the MAKE of CAR
note: Unfortunately not all radios can be decoded using the
Serial Number
Otherwise try your Main Dealer ...........or take it into a
Decode Service who will plug in a laptop to read/recode the memory chip
(EEPROM). This takes a few minutes and shouldn`t be too expensive
1. You have to have the code for the radio which varies by serial # of BMW. I got this code by calling my BMW dealer here in town. They were very nice and gave it to me for free.
2. When you enter the code wrong 3 times (I think) the radio goes into "sleep mode" for 2 or 3 hours of operation. In this sleep mode the radio will not let you enter the code from 1 above.
3. After waiting just enter the code and all will be well.
That normally happens when you enter the wrong code too many times. when you get the wait on the screen, that normally means you need to wait for a certain amout of time with the radio turned on and then it will come up asking for a code, each time you enter the wrong code after this will mean longer and longer wait times.
Hope this helps.
