Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

My whirlpool duet washer (only had it for 6 months)makes a loud humming which i assume is coming from the drain pump while spinning. I have checked and cleared the drain filter behind the kick plate. What i would like to know is what else can I do,or how can I check further up in the drain .The drain filter is clean, and it still empties out the water. But boy is it loud.

Yeah, I removed them when it was delivered.Just had third service call. First one said I was using too much soap, so we cleansed the washer with vinegar, and use one tbs of 3x soap per wash, second said it was everything from the bearings spinning the drum,to the accoustics of our house...I just about tossed the guy out. The last one said it was the pipe that runs from the pump to the drain vibrating against the plate. So he fooled around with it, ran one of his diagnistics, and it sounded better. I figured out later that he ran the spin without water,so the drain didn't make noise. So,it still makes noise. I ran the spin cycle, while the noise was going on,I unpluged the power to the pump.I'm 99% sure the pump is the source of the noise. I just don't know if a new pump is the answer,or is the poroduct just garbage.

Have you removed the shipping bolts when you got it? It would be 4 big silver bolts in the back of it. Otherwise you are still under manufacturer's warranty so a service call will be free.

Your pump is jammed with a blockage, remove the filter and check the pump behind it is revolving, usually a hair grip or button in there...remember the washer is full of water so you will have a lot of water coming out

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 3. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running. 4. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects. 5. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 6. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 7. 7. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 8. Whirlpool duet makes loud noises(Hummm) during spin ( drain) cycle. Any idea what would cause that? Unit seems to function properly. Could it be out of balance?

You will need to clean the catch out that is located in front of the pump. Sounds just like it is full of lint or has something clogging it restricting the water from draining. This is where the humming comes from. If you take the bottom panel off. You can see the catch. Just open and clean out.
