How do i network my brother hl 2040 on windows 7 I can find the printer on the network but I can not connect I think its a driver problem but I have the drives installed on both computer and laptop that I need to print from

Download the driver, save it in desktop and double click it to install the printer driver.

Did you downloaded a Windows 7 Compatible Driver Software ? If so give delete the existing downloaded file and give another try dy downloading it again . Possibly are there foe an incomplete / corrupt download .

I find that windows 7 prefers to download it's own drivers.

If you installed any drivers, uninstall them, unplug the USB of the printer and reboot.
When you get back into windows plug back in the USB cable to your printer
You will see "found new hardware" This time you want to let Windows to go online and download the drivers for you.

The brother HL-2040....is out, no vista drivers at all for that one on Brothers site, only drivers for 95,98,ME,NT and 2000

Are you positive it is a HL 2040? The 2040 only has parallel and usb ports. The HL 2070 has the network port.

Anyway, if it is already being printed to on the network from other printers go to one of the other PC's and look under the printer properties tab, go to the ports tab and see which IP address has a checkmark in the box......that is the IP address you will need...

If it isn't already setup on another PC then you will need the setup CD that has the BRAdmin Professional Software.

you could try this: unistall the HP printer driver first, uninstall the brother driver , restart pc, load brother driver with the usb cable unplugged from printer. Software will prompt for the cable to be connected to printer
