Question about Beverage-Air UCR48 Refrigerator

I have a beverage air ucr48 that is at least ten years old. The fan runs constantly but the unit does not overcool. Should I replace the thermostat and where can I buy the part?

There is no icing on the coil. I run a seasonal business and last summer this unit seemed to run continuosly. There was never a temperature issue, but the fan was always on. I was not sure if the fan was on all the time independently of the compressor or not. I am just looking to replace the thermostat now and wanted to know if this was the likely cause of the problem. Also I have not been able to determine the part number for the thermostat. Thanks.

Hi,

It tends to be the problem of the thermostat only. Thermostat is defective that's why you are not getting proper temperature. You need to replace thermostat.
If you can provide your location, I would be able to suggest you the repair centre to get it repaired.

Hope this helps.

Yes it needs replacing, it would be building up ice already, once the ice reaches the fan it wont go at all, cause the ice blocks everything up if its continually running its not doing a defrost to melt the ice. most appliance parts suppliers can get a thermistat they just need the make & model, or surf the web with the make & model for a cheaper option.

Probably a bad thermostat. I assume that by a seperate power source you mean that you unplugged the condensing unit from the built in black molded outlet and just plugged it into an extension cord or wall outlet. That black molded plug gets power interupted by the thermostat. The thermostat is inside of the cooler and can be a real pain to change. Im not sure of the layout of that specific model but in general it involves pulling all of the shelves and a panel from the inside to access the thermostat.

Where can I get a wiring diagram for an under-counter Beverage-Air cooler. The condenser runs then stops after a few seconds. Figuring a bad relay? The power runs but the condenser kicks off immediately...

If it's the condenser fan you are talking about you will not need a wiring diagram. The fan should be wired to the compressor and the thermostat. the thermostat is the relay to start the fans and compressor. I will continue to look for a wiring diagram. When the fan wears out they will stop causing the cooler to overheat. I think replacing the fan would be what you need. I believe that Beverage Air used the Copeland compressor with the condenser fan mounted on the one end of the the same slide in compressor. Check your voltage on the 2 wires going to the fan. When compressor is on the fan should also be running. I just have the feeling that condenser fan is defective.

I have a beverage air kegerator that seems to work fine, but the evaporator fan runs constantly. Is it supposed to run constantly, or is it supposed to cycle on and off with the compressor, etc.?

Most evaporator fans run all the time. This is mainly to use the air flow to assist in melting off any frost build up during the compressor off cycle. If that fan shut off with the compressor the coil will have a tendency to freeze up. :)

Replacing the thermostat should correct the problem. Be sure to install the thermstat exactly as the one you are removing, assuming it hasn't been changed prior. Hope this helps

Fan in cooling compartment

The fan inside the unit should run all the time, this insures a more constant temp throughout the compartment by keeping the air moving.

Beverage air ucr48 A problem

yes check the condenser coils if dirty, clean it

2nd you can be having a defective evaporator /condenser fan, make sure both fans are running.

3rd you can have a relay/start capacitor/overload problem i'd suspect this if compressor hums and trips.

Touch the discharge line of compressor it should be hot, if not, compressor ain't turning on.

If your coils iced up, suspect a faulty thermostat.

but before all of this i'd check for an iced coil.
