The manual here, describes replacing the battery.
Basically you, 1) Remove the locking pin if it's installed, with some long nosed pliers. 2) Twist the alarm free in the direction of the off arrow. 3) Install a new battery. 4) Twist the alarm back in place, in the direction of the on arrow. 5) Insert a locking pin 6) Test the alarm.

My night hawk carbon monoxide reads L6. Then Err.

Lb (rather than L6) indicates a low battery. You need to replace the 9V battery in the carbon monoxide detector. The Err suggests an internal error but could just be due to the low battery.

If the Err persists after you replace the battery, press the peak level button (the right hand button) and check for an additional error code. If the Err message continues, replace the Night Hawk unit. If the unit is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer. Most of these units have a 10 year warranty. There are several models available from Kidde. The manual is available on the product site. For the KN-COPP-3 Night Hawk carbon monoxide detector, the documentation is available here: . Click on the Documents tab. The manual for the KN-COPP-3 999-0100 is here: .

I hope this helps.

Some of Our Kidde i9040 alarms will routinely beep at night even tho I just replaced batteries 6 mo. ago. The alarms are only a yr. old. Why do they only chirp at night?

Make sure you use quality batteries. 9V lithium, sometimes called max life or ultralife may be just the ticket as they will likely last for years. Also be sure your smokes were wired correctly. If the beeping occurs only at might, perhaps they were improperly wired through a light switch, meaning that they may not be getting power all of the time. If you don't know how to check this yourself using a volt meter or tick meter, have an electrician check to be sure there are no wiring issues...good luck!

Installed fresh battery in my Kidde smoke detector Model i12060A and after about 9 hours it started to beep . Disconnected it from power source and removed battery to silence it. Please advise how to

Two things I would suggest: 1. make certain the battery you are using is good; consider using 9V lithium instead of alkaline as they will likely last much longer and perform better 2. ensure you are following all of the instructions for battery replacement correctly; many smoke alarms and detectors have labels on the back with replacement instructions that specify leaving the old battery out for a minimum length of time, anywhere from about 10 to 60 sec; failure to follow this will often result in erroneous low battery indications. Of course, if the unit is over 10 years old, it must be replaced per NFPA72, the national fire code.

My Kidde Carbon monoxide beeps every 30 seconds and is showing L6 with a flash of 0? It is brand new. What does this mean?

L6 is actually "Lb", which is a low battery warning. If the 9V battery is missing, or if the battery's power is low, an "Lb" message will display, which blink's alternately with the current CO reading, while chirping. If this happens, you need to replace the battery.

How to replace battery back-up in hard-wired ceiling mounted residential Firex Smoke Detector? Model number unknown but units about 10 y.o. - circular in shape and cream coloured.

Those battery holders are not easy to find on that model. However, look for a small screw on the outer perimeter of the detector. That's the door that needs to removed to replace the back-up battery. Some models don't have the screw, but can be popped open with gentle pressure using a flat tip screw driver.

Hope that helped to solve your problem.

We have a Kidde and it beeps and flashes a 16, then goes back to 0.

I think you mean it flashes lb (low battery). Change the 9v battery in the unit. Be sure to use a fresh alkaline battery.

My kidde smoke and carbon monoxide alarm keeps beeping and saying low battery and i don't have a manual how do i open it so i can change the battery?

You will need to remove the unit from the ceiling to reveal the battery compartment on the back. It should just need to be rotated counter clockwise a small amount and will then come loose from the bracket. When installing a new battey be sure to press the battery reminder finger down into the battery compartment or the battery door will not close. I have a Kidde model 0976 9V battery powered ionization smoke alarm. It chirps roughly every 45 seconds. I have changed the battery but did not cure the problem. Any ideas as to what the problem...

hi - I think I just fixed the problem for mine. I had the exact same problem. Literally just got back from the store with 2 brand new 9v batteries with an exp. date of 2013 (I made absolute certain they would be years away from expiring). I installed them, and I'll be damned if they didn't start chirping again. As I read the instructions one more time, it occurred to me that it was in hush mode. I pressed the "Push and and Hold To Test" button for about 2 seconds - not long enough to set it off. It hasn't chirped since, and it's been nearly an hour. Try that and see what happens. Good luck!
