Look for a screw that touches the linkage to the carb. Turn this screw to open the throttle till it idles the motor so the chain just creeps along

My dad owns a 3 yr old Homelite chainsaw. he is bringing it to me to repair. The chainsaw runs great and as it warm up the idle will rise to the point were it is full throttle and you can't get it to idle...

Check the throttle trigger assembly for free play. You may have to remove the handle section over the trigger to remove sawdust/dirt. Idle changes are usually due to air leakage behind the carburetor--check all fasteners on the carburetor including the ones holding the carburetor to the cylinder. Check the muffler and air cleaner for plugging. Check the cylinder for looseness to the crankcase. Check the throttle return spring on the carburetor to make sure that it is working correctly. Hope some of this helps!

Chainsaw reving full, not the idle screw or throttle cable

Remove the air cleaner assembly so that you can see the action of the throttle mechanism. If nothing around the carburetor throttle arm is broken or out of place (the return spring), then remove the screws in the throttle trigger part of the handle and look for sawdust blocking throttle trigger action. Hope this helps!
