Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I have a 51 inches big screen TYPE # AC120-60HZ-200W and after watching TV for about a hours or less the TV begins to flicker and the picture gets hard to see, so we shut it off. And after waiting awhile and turning it back on the problem is gone, until it heats up again. Someone had told me that they think it is possiblity the Lamp over heating, is this problem fixable. The TV is a Samsung 2004 model - # HLN5065WX/XAA and Serial # 31DX802147E -its lamp code is BP96-00224C(P). I guess what I need to know is this TV worth fixing and were do I get the part to fix it or should I just send it to the junk pile.

First look in the back and be sure that the fan is turning and that the airway is clear. There are airflow sensors inside that may be shutting down the set because they are dirty and can not detect the flow correctly or the lamp may just be getting too hot. Normally there is an indication on the front of the set with a flashing code. Look for that and try to match the code with one listed in the owner's manual.

Keep us posted.

I have a Philips 50 DLP HDTV MICRO DSPL and I figured the lamp was about to go out because after you would watch tv for about an hour and a half the picture would begin to flicker so I replaced the lamp...

A couple of things to check here. When you replace a lamp some TVs require you to reset the lamp hours meter in the settings in the menu (More common in projectors). If you do not do that then it will only run so many hours before shutting off again. If it is that, you should be able to turn it off and have enough time on the screen to reset that. If that is not the case then you should look into replacing your power supply board.

The problem is a shaky picture with a static line that's vertical when watching regular TV. This problem does not happen when not watching in HD through our Myth TV (DVR). Closed captioning does not...

Regular TV, you mean by the aerial and internal tuner, if it is like that, then it is a problem with the TV tuner board.
If by regular TV you mean an external TV box, then the TV box is faulty or you have a cable or ferquency problem.

Panasonic PT-51HX40B turns itself off and has no video, no lights

The buzzing noise that you were earing came from a bad ballast, and because of the bad ballast your lamp must have got out also, and that is were you are getting the burned smel from and also that is why you are no longer geteting any picture either.

So in this case you would have to replace the ballast board and the lamp on your tv set.

DLP TV starts to loose picture after 1 - 1/2 hours of use

This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. see which inputs have the problem to narrow it down. if only some inputs, suspect analog board. if everything flickers(all inputs and menu), suspect the dmd or engine. you can see the lamp shine out the back. if the lamp is flickering, suspect lamp or ballast.

There is a 5, 9 & 12 volt dc regulator on the chassis that could be causing this. Three legged transistors on small heat sinks. I f you look at the chassis from the rear of tv, is two boards. The one on the left has these reg. transistors. Usually the 9v regulator is bad and a 35ufd @ 50v capacitor near it is bad. From the tuner as ground check the third leg on the regulator for less than 9v dc.
