    Hi jerrymac12,

I've tried more than several times. Even after few restarts and shutdowns, still nothing. Seems HP will have to work on it :-(

Hello, I just finished resolving this issue with a client of mine with the very same laptop. The touch sensitive controls on this laptop are capacitive touch sensors, meaning that there are little capacitors that detect the electrical inpulses in your finger tips. This is how it knows you are touching the given area. Capacitors can hold a charge for a long time and at times get stuck and be unable to discharge (In our case this means that it is stuck on all the time). To resolve this issue I have had success in shutting down the laptop and removing the battery for AT LEAST 4 MINS!!! Any time shorter than this may not allow the capacitors to completely discharge. After removing the battery for at least 4 mins and no less you can return the battery to its home in the laptop and turn it back on. There your issue should now be resolved. Hope this helps.

I'm not totally sure with the specific model you mention, but I DO know that many of the HP 6xxx series laptops, the light board above the keyboard are touch sensitive, have you tried actually using your finger to touch the amber light itself and see if it changes to blue? (or the volume bar?)

Try tapping a few times with your finger and see if that helps.

Good Luck

hmmmm in that case you may have a problem with the touch might want to call HP support and see if it is still under warranty or if they had a recall on it, just to see if you get lucky.

Hi there, i'm having the same problem on exactly the same Probook type. On top of that there's no sound at all. There's no missing driver or wrong driver installed, i double checked that.
    Any luck with it?

Check your Adapter Cables properly connected or take your battery from the Laptop and put it back. Then try restarting. If nothing helps check your Adapter with another same model Laptop. If the Adapter working well then your Battery is dead!.

ProBook 6450b mute button on keyboard is always orange

Is the volume muted or not when the light is orange? If it is muted then use the icon on task bar and increase the volume, to see if color changes. If it is not muted and a change of volume does not affect the color of the light, maybe that is the normal color for it. Did you read the manual and find that orange means trouble. On my computer, the light for my WifI is always orange.
The speakers may be muted by an Fn +Fx key sequence, or some additional buttons on the computer.

An orange light is showing on the network port

Water and electronics do not mix well together. Rarely does anything good come from a Laptop "shower". Anyway, Can you be a bit more specific. "An orange light is showing on the network port" doesn't tell me what you question/problem is.

HP probook 4420s stuck on mute

Look on you system at the keyboard and you will find a key that toggles the mute if he pressed it. It will toggle between on and off. Normally the mute key or button will look like a megaphone and if it is muted it will have an x over it. Press it to unmute it. Sometimes if it is a key, you might have to press the FN, CTRL or ALT key while you press and hold the key that toggles the mute.

Another way to remove the mute is to Double Click on the megaphone if you see it at the bottom right near the time. This will bring up the volume control and you just remove the check mark from any that is muted.

Also you can click Start/Control Panel look for volume controls that might be muted and remove the check mark on mute.

Also click Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume Control and remove the check mark on muted items.
