The hand brake on my bike was frozen, I had not ridden it in a few months. However when it finally did loosen up...it got so loose that now it won't work at all.

You probably need to replace the brake cables because they're rusted or lack lube.

The back tire is stuck....it wont turn...


There are a number things that could cause your problem.

First place start is with the rim. Is the rim (wheel) true (straight), if it is bent it could have the tire or brake rubbing. If that is the problem you need to true or straighten or have the rim straightened.

2nd place to go is are the brakes too tight? If so adjust brakes.

3rd place to go could be a seriouse problem. Is the axle frozen. To test you will have to take the wheel off the bike. With the wheel loose from the bike see if the axle will turn if not try to loosen the bearing lock nut just a very little (like 1/8 of a turn) did it free up the axle or does the axle bind a little but still turn smoothly? If so Loosen the lock nut a little more. Just enough that the wheel will allow the axle to spin freely but not so loose as to allow the wheel to wobble sideways at all. If the axle turns and grinds and clunks your bearings likely need to be replaced and or greased. Do not just squirt oil into the bearings it is too light and will not last.

unless there is play in the headset (check by applying the front brake and rocking the bike back and forth) you will feel it rock if not it's just a matter of getting used to it.

Front brake pads fj1100


undo 2 nuts connecting brake caliper to bike (leave the hose connected) once loose and the pads removed, loosen the brake fluid holder lid, the cylinder needs to be pushed back into the caliper, a 'G' clamp is ideal for this.
put new brake pads in as the old ones came out, bolt back on bike checking 1 pad on each side of disk, pump brake a few times untill pressure can be felt on clutch lever, repeat other side. Important..only loosen one at a time replace pads then do other side.

My son parked his bike in front of a loca store someone messed up his front brake (I think on purpose) the wire connecting the brake pads on the bike - is loose and the brake pads won't...


Sorry to hear about your sons bike have been messed up. First you have to check out if the brake works. Pull it with your fingers (brake itself, where the cable is attached). If it squeezes and springs back, there is no probs. Then loosen the cable and check if the brake lever works (use it as if you are braking). It should go down and spring back itself. If it does, there is no probs. In that case all you have to do is to loosen the cable at the brake itself and then re-fit it by pulling the cable with pliers and securing it with the appropriate screw.

THE BIKE WONT KEEP A CHARGE


Remove the seat to access the battery.
A loose battery connection will prevent charging, Tighten if loose.
If tight, start the bike.
Use a multimeter set on d/c volts or just a volt meter.
Hook red to positive and black to negative.
should read 12.50 volts - 13.50 volts at idle.
Anything under 12.50 means not charging at idle.
Rev motor to 2000 rpm. the meter should read 13.50 - 14.8. If the volts do not change, then your bike is not charging, Anything Higher than 15.0 means that your bike is overcharging, which usully fries the battery and blows the headlight fuse and/or main fuse.

If over/undercharging, this means that the voltage regulator is bad.
Before you buy another one, make sure the one you have is plugged in all the way and that the connectors are clean.
I had a GSXR 750 that sat for a while and i had to clean every connector on the bike before it would run/operate like it should, so a dirty or loose connection should be checked first.
Saves you a lot of money too because voltage regulators are usually over $100.

If you do not ride for months at a time, your battery will discharge over time.
a battery tender or battery charger is needed to keep the battery charged when the bike is not in use. Motorcycle batteries are not like car batteries, that seem to last forever. 4-5 years is about all you'll get out of a motorcycle battery on a motorcycle that is ridden alot.
On a motorcycle that is barely ridden, won't last much more than 2 years if your lucky.

Sounds like you have brake chatter. You need to "toe in" your pads on the front brake. Most new brake assemblies have a wedge shaped washer between the pad holder and where it mounts. If you loosen the nut that that holds the pad holder to the assembly and turn the washer you can see the relationship betwween the pad and the rim change. Turn the washer so the pad is toed in slightly(the end towards the front of the bike). If your brakes don't have the shaped washer you can put a crescent wrench on the brake arm and CAREFULLY tweak the toe in. Be gentle and good luck!

Chain keeps coming off rear cogs when you stop pedaling, and when you change gears , Have had bike to bike mechanic twice to fix the problem to no avail ! Alignment of rear derailer has not solved the...


Coming off which side ? - outside toward the frame member or inside to the spokes.

You should avoid using the small chainring and small cog combination which is silly on the one hand, damaging to the drivetrain and usually results in a lot of slack chain dangling down between the derailleur and the cranks.

Here are instructions on how to set the limit screws which determine the physical end limits where the derailleur can lead the chain.

How to attach hand brakes? how do i loosen handle bars to adjust?


The bolt you see right above where the handle turns is the handle bar clamp. And if it's been on a while you'll need to take a piece of strong wood and hold it on the bolt, when it's lossened a bit, and hit it with a hammer to fully loosen the handle bars.
Hand brakes should come with clamps to put on the hadle bars, and if you look at bikes that have hand brake, you'll see how to route the cable. The only problwem is if your bike doesn't have the part taht the brake would screw to at the wheel. Then you'll have to improvise.
