Hdodgefi,

I have a tip at

http://www.fixya.com/support/r4690955-clean_lense_screen_in_projection_tv

which should help you with the process. You should not need to remove the bezel. Everything is removed from the rear to access.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Have a very old rca projection tv. had in basement than our tv upstairs was hit by the wii- we brought this one upstairs it turns on great but it is very dark. tried to change settings but still remains...

It is either the projection lenses are very dusty or are getting weak. I would clean the projection lenses and try it. It has been a while, so bear with me. The bottom speaker covers should should either have some screws around the edges or just pop off (most are the pop-off kind). Under there, there might be some screws that hold the bezel (that frame around the screen). Remove the screws and remove the bezel. You might have to slide the bezel up to pull it (try bumping up on the lower corners with the heel of your hand). The screen should come off with the bezel (just set it aside and be careful with it). Now the 3 projection lenses(red, blue, and green) and mirror are both exposed. Wipe the dust off the lenses with a damp cloth and follow with a dry cloth. If the big mirror is glass, clean it with a damp cloth (maybe a little glass cleaner) and dry with a clean cloth If it is the foil type mirror, clean it real gently with a damp cloth. The big white plastic lens at the front is cleanable with a clean damp cloth. But unless there is a smoker in the house, I wouldn't mess with it. If you do clean it, be sure to use a circular motion with the pattern on the lens...it scratches easily. Then snap the bezel/lens assembly back on and reassemble the front pieces. It has been a while since I have cleaned one of these. There may be a few differences in getting into the projection area depending on the models. Since the projection tubes are aimed up , the dust really builds up in them.
Hope this helps and good luck with it.

I have an older Pioneer rear projection TV that has never been cleaned, model SD-P50A5-K. Can you give me the basic cleaning instructions and the do nots for this TV.

Unplug the TV for safety - even unplugged, there is enough energy stored in the electronics to be very dangerous.
The bottom speaker grill snaps straight off. There are a row of screws under the screen around the screen bezel that must be removed. The bottom of the screen will become loose and the whole screen assembly slides up, like opening a window (there is a bracket under the bezel at the top of the screen that the bezel slides off of.) My screen took a lot of effort to disengage the top bracket - careful not to break anything!!!

Once the screen is off, put it safely aside. There is a mirror in the back that can be cleaned with a damp cloth (not dripping wet!). Remove a little dust at a time and keep washing the cloth out between cleanings. Be very gentle. If you push on the mirror it could break If its never been cleaned there is sure to be a lot of crud.

Below the mirror are three colored lenses. CAREFULLY use a clean lightly damp cloth to wipe each one. Don't mess with any of the adjustment screws and levers on the lenses.

Before putting the screen back on the TV, carefully clean it with a damp cloth too. Slide the screen back over the top bracket, put the screws back in, and pop the speaker grill back on.

Its a good idea to readjust you convergence too.

When I cleaned my set, I was amazed at how bright and sharp the picture was!

Be Careful!

Mitsubishi wd 62527 has very dark picture changed

Clean the small front projection mirror. That mirror can get dust on it and will cause the projected image to appear dull and dim and cleaning that mirror will usually restore the brightness and crisp details in the image.

Cob webs behind screen

The frame around the screen just pops off. Unscrew the plastic holders from the chassis frame and the screen will come off allowing you to clean everything inside easily. The "2" thin screens are easily cleaned and put back on easily also. Don't do what I did and think the screens go into the front slot of your plastic brace, they slide easily into the wider slot. You'll also be able to clean the dust from the reflector and guns with Windex. Much better picture after wards, trust me. You would be surprised how much dust may have accumulated on the lenses.

Is there a way to clean and adjust the mirrors on this television?

CLEANING THE MIRROR IS SIMPLE. REMOVE THE SCREEN AND USE WINDEX AND PAPER TOWELS. DONT SPRAY THE MIRROR OR TUBE LENSES, SPRAY THE TOWELS. YOU DONT WANT LIQUID ON THE CIRCUITS BY MISTAKE. THERE ARE NO MIRROR ADJUSTMENTS. IF YOU HAVE A GEOMETRY PROBLEM MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE, THAT THE BACK COVER IS TIGHT NOTHING SHOULD MOVE. IF YOU STILL HAVE A GEOMETRY PROBLEM ITS A CIRCUIT (CONVERGENCE) ISSUE.

How to locate and clean the mirror on philips projection set

Remove upper back. The mirror is right there facing down at 45 degree angle to the three projector lenses and the screen. It is a silver polyester film laid over a backing board. I cleaned mine successfully with very soft paper towel (Bounty) and 70% alcohol. Rub gently in small circles until the alcohol is dry. If you just wipe the alcohol across the surface it will dry with a bad white haze. You have to rub it dry and then keep moving on until whole mirror is cleaned. This is only necessary if there are smokers in the house. Cleaning gets the nicotine film off the mirror. Best to not clean if possible.

Cleaning mirrors and lenses on Sony big-screen projection TV

it's fairly easy to remove the screws on the back bottom portion of any rear-projector television. when the bottom part is removed, you will see both the mirror and the 3 lens. isopropyl alcohol or windex should do an efficient job. a soft lens rag can be found at any camera store. i'd spray the lens rag instead of the actual lens or mirror when doing this job.
