My Brother MFC-7420 Printer always prints black lines and splotches down the left side of my paper. This happens whether I'm scanning or printing from my PC. When I looked at my drum, it appears a

If you are seeing vertical streaks/black lines your primary corona wire is dirty and or the fax scanner may be dirty.
1)To clean the corona wire you take the drum unit and toner cartridge and place it on disposable paper to avoid spilling.
2) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3) Return the blue tab and snap it into the home position.
4) Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge.
5) Close the front cover.
Caution: if you do not return the blue tab to the home position it may repeat the black lines.

Lexmark E120. When it prints it leaves a thick black smudge about 1/2-1 inch thick down the entire left side of the paper in waves. Is there away to clean something or replace something to correct this?

It's time to take your printer to a professional technician, to trouble-shoot and fix this problem,
if you don't know how to do this by yourself.

My lexmark e120 printer prints with horizontal lines across the pages, how do I get rid of this?

Many times horizontal lines -- esp if constant (e.g. 4 inches apart) appear-- on laser printers indicates a drum issue. NOT usually inexpensive. Sometimes one can dis-assemble part of printer and clean drum with soft cloth and therefore "buy some time"

I have a Lexmark E120 printer and the rollers are leaving a toner mark on the side of all pages I print. I need to clean the roller but can't get access. Any solutions?

takeout cartridge from printer & check if the same toner marks exist on drum then reffil your cartridge properly or change the drum if there is any scratch

You may still be able to do a printer selftest page.

Press the large button on the printer.

Look at the pages for

Toner
Imaging unit

The Imaging unit may be at end of life.

This is the drum unit and collects the waste toner.
Whilst you can just reset the drum counter (see user guide for this E120, it can lead to problems if you don;t replace the drum unit. I've seen E120 drum units packed full of waste toner, to the stage where they won't take any more, and it just spews all over the mechanism. It's a very small waste collector (but its also a very small printer, and relatively low capacity toner cartridges (1k, or 2k).

Remanufactured drum units for E120 can be found on the usual internet auction sites.

Lexmark laser printer leaving a white streak 2-3

take a q-tip and clean the scanner window. this is located in a 3/16' opening on the roof of the printer cavity it will be about 8inchs long. pull the toner cartridge and feel with your fingers on the roof of the cavity this will be located above the transfer roller slightly towards the front of the printer. white lines like this mean the laser is being blocked usually by a bit of toner or other dirt of some kind

WEAK COPIES ON XEROX COPIER

You need to 1 remove the glass and clean the mirrors, lens and bottom side of the glass.
Also, remove the toner and drum cartridge, use a flash light. On the left side you will see a "window" about 5/16th of an inch in height, and probably 5 or 6 inches wide. That is the laser window, it is probably pretty dirty. You may have to use a Q tip or a soft cloth, dampened with some glass cleaner, and clean that window well.
If the optics, and laser are dirty , hazy, the copies will be light and streaky. The drum may be bad. Also, on the right hand door, Look just above the rollers, there will be an opening, it has a small clear plastic guide, then open with a hair fine wire running through it. Take a Q tip dampened with some alcohol, and carefully clean that wire. You can apply light pressure to clean it, just don't get forceful, it does not take a lot of pressure to clean that wire. That wire is responsible for "transferring" the ink from the drum to the paper.
If you clean all 3, Optics, Laser window and transfer wire, I think you will be very very pleased with your copy and or print quality. That should restore it very well.

Cloudy scans

I would start by removing the glass and cleaning the mirror and lens.
Then remove the toner and drum, look inside to the left for an opening about 5/16th of an inch high and 5 or 6 inches wide. That is the laser opening. Get a q tip or soft cloth and with a flash light in hand, clean the laser window. That may also be hazy and dirty.
Then open the right side door, look above the rollers , there is an opening with a very small wire in it. Take a q tip dampened in alcohol and gently clean that wire. It transfers the ink from the drum to the paper. I
