Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

Have a 10yr old 37" Zenith, went dark and emits a buzzing noise and see smoke from something frying (seems to be from lower right side as you look at the back of the set). A lot of dust build up over the years (hasn't really been moved, exterior cleaned only) Going to take in for service, does it sound like it might be the picture tube or probably a short somewhere? Anyway an electrically challenged person such as me can tell the seriousness of the problem?

The flyback transformer has a short inside of one of the windings and needs to be replaced. This part if still available will be in the $75 range. This set may not be worth the repair cost. If you want to get more specific costs, please post the exact model number from the back of the set.

Thanks,
Dan

The tv wont turn on and there is a short buzzing noise

If the buzzing noise sounds like a fork in the microwave, it's time for a new lamp. If it sounds like a squealing noise, it's either a fan or the color wheel. Color wheels are not easy to replace, so I recommend hiring a Service Tech.

TV wont turn on

The main power supply is failing or it is shutting down because of a fault on the output side of it and it is trying to protect itself from overload which can cause a fire. Contact Zenith customer service and describe the problem, particularly the flashing LED which may be giving you an error code.

Problem with Toshiba DLP Projection TV Model #52HM84

It is possible the lamps may be defective or that they may be the wrong replacement for this model, as it may have a different wattage setup with the ballast. If you want to try to order the TB25 lamp from a different vendor, you can order the original Toshiba replacement lamp for this model (52HM84) from a major Toshiba parts distributor at the link below:

I have a 10 to 12 year old Zenith SY2772 tv. The picture is getting gradually darker and darker, so that it is very hard to see what is going on in scenes that are dark to begin with. I assume that it is...

Yes it could be other things, but to be honest, I wouldn't waste time or money on a set that old. If the picture was perfect and something else went bad, perhaps a small investment would be worth it, but with your description, I'd pass.

Time for a new set.

Samsung hln4635 makes buzzing noise when powered on

Try lowering the backlight to less than 10. This seems to be a known issue with this model. It could be the cooling fan, and usually the noise is higher when the picture is dark or has a high contrast.
If your TV is still under warranty, then the best thing to do would be to get it replaced. If not, you may need to call in a qualified technician to look into this.

If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please take a moment to close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Great pic but bad sound

Your problem could be the main amp board, the signal panel or the audio processor board. You will need to get a service manual for this set to diagnoise these problems. Good Luck
