Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV350 Digital Camcorder

Firewire port problem

The firewire port on my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV350 seems to be having problems. When the firewire cable is connected- sometimes the camera is detected and other times it isn't. It's definately the camera and not the cable or the computer, because I have other cameras... It's frustrating because it works randomly and is the only 8mm cam I have. Any suggestions?

How to copy 8mm tape using DCR-TRV350 to pc.

You will need an analogue to digital converter box. You connect the camera to the converter box with analogue cables and connect the A/D box to the PC with a firewire cable.
Note: Many mini DV cameras with analogue inputs can act as an A/D Converter box.

You may not be useing a firewire cable, note a USB cable connection will not download movies, the firewire will cost around £10 from Maplins, Currys, PC World type shops okay, good luck with the movie making.

DCR-TRV350 Sony Handycam won't load pictures to Vista

You need to purchase a video editing software program. If you have a usb or dv port on your computer you will need a firewire card on your computer or a spare usb port.

Pinnacle Studio will work with Vista. Once the software is installed and the camera is tuned on, A dialog box will appear asking to run Pinnacle Studio. Go into capture mode to copy the video to your hard drive.

Connecting Sony Handycam DCR-HC14E to iMac

There is a great manual here:
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/ShowExternalPage.action?product=DCR-HC14E&supportProductModelName=DCR-HC14E&linkType=manual&isRegistered=false&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=manualPopup&sectiontype=Support&externalUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpdf.crse.com%2Fmanuals%2F3089850112.pdf&externalLinkType=manual
And in short the I.link is a 1394 port or firewire port
You should be good to go

Importing from Sony Handycam trv350 to iMovie

I have a TRV730, and on this camera the USB port on the camera only reads files from the memory stick. (Set the camera mode switch to "memory", and the Mac will display the contents within about 20 seconds.) Same as any digital camera.

Video in/out is only done through the firewire (iSight) port. You need to buy a 4-pin/6-pin firewire cable. Good ones are $25 or so, cheap ones can be had for $5 or less but you take your chances with those. (Can anyone explain why Sony includes a useless 4-pin/4-pin iSight cable with the camera??)

What's cool about the Digital8 cameras is that you can put in an old analog (Hi8) tape and output a digital signal to the Mac.

Can't be 100% certain of this, but I'd bet your camera is similarly configured. Squeezing video through the USB port would be painfully slow anyway.

a firewire cable will probably work better than a usb connection ( assuming your laptop has a firewire connector ) for video editing ;

Firewire port damaged

Take a magnifying glass to the firewire port on the camera. Check to see if it looks damaged at all. Sometimes the port has become disengaged from the internal component. Sometimes it's simply damaged because the cable was inserted improperly. They are not very rugged. In my opinion, you followed perfect troubleshooting techniques. Time to send it in for an estimate.
