Thermistor resistance value on Sony KV-27S42

Does anyone know what the resistance should be on the thermistor THP601 ( original part # 180358611 changed upto 180354111) in the KV-27S42 degausser circuit? I did order the part but they send me a 3 legged part, original was 2 legged. They said this was the replacement. It has 2 pieces of ceramic disc inside with a resistance on each of 9 ohms....total if I just connect the two pins of 18 ohms. Does that sound like the correct value? The old one was tested at less than 1 ohm....but it could be bad. Need to get a schematic to see what the value should be. Any idea where I can get that info? Thanks

Thats what happened to my 42in plasma... Your circuit boards and main power boards are fired..and have to be replace.. research online to see what boards you tv needs and see if you can do it yourself.. if not call around for a specialist..

Sony KV-27S42 27" TV Problem

Hello BrianMcL
You are 100% correct, you will need a degaussing coil to take care of this problem. The instructions on how to use it will be included with the degaussing coil.
I hope this helps,

How do i know wether the thermistor is shorted / open, defective?

Hello clydex,

Yes you can use an ohmmeter, however you will need a hot air gun to. Let me explain: There are two types of Thermistors +Temperature coefficient and - Temperature coefficient.

The +temperature thermistor reacts this way: as the temperature goes up so does the resistance of the device this is used when dealing with degaussing coils as the current passes through the coil it heats up the thermistor until the thermistor cuts off the current needed to run the coil.

The -temperature thermistor reacts this way: as the temperature goes up the resistance decreases, this can be seen when dealing with circuits that are designed to short out when excessive current is present. The excessive current causes the thermistor to heat up and the the resistance drops causing the device to short out.

Here is how to do it.: connect the device to the ohmmeter and use the heat gun to heat the component up the value of resistance should rise or decrease.

I hope this helps,
Thank you,

I guess you mean RF input for the dish, then the problem is with the tuner section. Try replacing the tuner, it is not so costly.
