Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Within the last three weeks the cordless mouse which came with the HP Media Centre PC I purchased in November 2006, has begun to behave strangely. When text, especially in a Word document, is highlighted and the buttons on the mouse released, the highlighted portion does not remain highlighted. When attempting to drag the scroll bars up or down at the side of the screen, only a very, very tiny amount is pulled up or down. I'm using Windows XP.

I've tried that thanks but the system suggests that the drivers I have are up-to-date.

You might check for a driver update.
To do this, right click on 'My Computer', Then click on Device Manager, Then click on the [+] sign by 'mice and other pointing devices', Then right-click on the appropriate mouse, Then click on 'Update Driver'

You might also try the Windows Update site:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323166

Thanks, but I've tried that. The system appears to suggest that the drivers are up-to-date.

Again, I tried the update centre to see if there was something that could rectify the problem but I seem to have all of the updates I have been advised of and which seem to be necessary.
I'd wondered if it had been the result of a Windows update and that a supplementary update would have been available to rectify it.

Mouse behaving erratically

1. uninstall the mouse and then reinstall the mouse by restarting the PC. Upon restart the mouse should be detected as new hardware and reinstall properly and this should correct the practice behavior of the mouse.
If not then you have a mouse with faulty electronics and needs replacement.

Try to replace the batteries in it. It may be acting strange due to low batteries. If this does not help you try testing out on another system and post results.

I called Logitech. They said to get a new one. I guess it's still under warranty, so they'll probably send me a new one.

Will not power up

there is a known issue with the GPU on these boards going out. thats why you have the strange rolling on the screen. i have sent some units in to hp to get new motherboards.

send it in, after that i believe you will at least have 90 days on the repair.

call hp and they will send you a box, you should get it back in 7-10 biz days last i checked.

in some cases on the s3000 series they have added an extended 12 mos to original purchase dat or before 12.31.09 whatever is first.

get it done now before its too late

Good Luck!

Mine normally lasted for about a month. Went to rechargables. Cheaper overall.

A week is bad. I'd be calling Logitech, or the store you purchased it at.

1) Do not ask questions in CAPS. It's bad form and considered rude in some forums.
2) It's a failed mouse. Replace it or call the manufacturer for replacement.
