Question about ASUS P5GL-MX Motherboard

3 Answers

I just installed Window 7 Ultimate (32 bit) in my PC with motherboard ASUS Intel Socket 775 P5GL-MX. Everything is working fine except the Sound. I have checked the driver and it shows as 'High Definition Audio Device' and the status is normal, but I can't hear anything when doing test. I have visited the ASUS site and can't find any audio driver of Window 7 for this motherboard. Please help. Big thanks.

This is Intels link for their drivers. There is a white window torwards the top "Run Intel driver update utility". If you click on that Intel will scan your computer and update your drivers if necessary. I couldn't get to Asus at this time but I will try again and post wgat I find. If you can find the window that shows you your device, which you have stated you can, pull up that window and right click on the device. A window should come up with options "enable" or "disable". If it shows enable, click on that and you should have sound. If you have a speaker icon in the taskbar at lower right, you can do this here by right clicking on icon, left clicking on "playback devce". The final step, right click on sraker icon and click on "open sound mixer", here you can adjust all volumes. I hope this helps you.

Windows 7 does a very good job of getting your drivers automatically so I don't think it's a problem with drivers. You motherboard isn't too old too.
Basic troubleshooting tips: 1) Make sure that the speaker is turned ON. 2) Try adjusting the volume of the speaker. 3) Make sure that the speaker is connected to the proper jack at the back of the CPU. 4) In the Control Panel, there are 2 separate volume controls: one for Sound and one for the Audio Driver. Check the volume level for each.

ASUS p5gl-mx sound problem on Window 7

You're motherboard has the following audio chipset:
SoundMax ADI AD1986A. There is no specific Windwos 7 audio driver for your motherboard yet, but any Windows 7 compatible driver for the AD1986 will do.

I found a Vista driver on the Asus site which should be compatible, although I didn't check it myself (since I don't use Win7 yet). The download link is on this page:

Yeah, the page loads very slow, but whenever it's there, download & try the "ADI AD1986A Audio Driver v6.10.01.6070" driver.

Sound not working

Although your hardware is listed as a Soundmax card your sound card should use an AC97 HD driver (download).

Post your results back here (especially if this doesn't do the trick).
