Is it still under warranty?
If not I would find a good TV Service Shop and have them check out the power supply as there more than likely a 'Capacitor' much like a battery that is going bad.

This is usually down to a safety feature cutting out the Television from harming itself. Or quite possibly a fault that make it turn itself off - it may well be thinking it's receiving the command to turn itself off. Either way, it's impossible to find out without opening it up. A professional repair is the only way, check up on your warranty. You may want to plug it into a different power source, just on the off-chance that it may solve your problem - but don't get your hopes up.

This is caused by bad solder connections in what's called the pincushion correction circuit. Some of the transistors get quite hot, and over time the solder connections to the TV circuit board become intermittent. When you tap the set, it causes them to make contact again so the picture is normal, but then it goes funny again. Resoldering the connections would take care of this problem. I would suggest calling a professional in to make the repair, which would cost far less than a replacement TV.
Hope this has been helpful, and thanks for using Fixya!
