Hi

The password is stored on the hidden restore partition, and can be read with a ubuntu live cd, mount the hidden partition and its in one of the files. I've done this myself in the past. the password is stored in plain text, you just open the file with a text editor and you can read it from there.

the default password is 1234 or 12345 or 0000 or 000000

Look for a line of text in the files in the recovery partition, I think it was a DAT file that reads Password=password

I'm not completely sure but it might be in \TOOLS\AIMDRS.DAT.

Your options are either go to Acer for a replacement Vista recovery DVD or
Install a borrowed Vista DVD, must be same Vista Basic, Home Premium,
then use your registered CD key, normally located on the side or rear of your tower.
It will also tell which Vista type you have. You then must go to the Acer support site
and install then drivers for the componenets in you computer.
You will not have any other software installed that may have come with your
original setup from Acer. This option requires more work on your part, but
no cost to you. Acer will charge for a Recovery DVD, plus S&H.

Can you downgrade from vista to xp on an acer t180?

Of course you can.
The only concern would be drivers, but all drivers that exist for Vista exist for XP as well. Just go to Acer's download page (link) and download all necessary drivers before you downgrade. (this is especially important for your Chipset and LAN drivers, so you have them handy when you reinstall.

The site is a little it confusing, but after you chose "Desktop -> Aspire -> Aspire T180", you will see a small drop-down menu, where you can choose your operating system and your language.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

No universal serial controller on my acer t180

Hi there. You need to update/install your chipset drivers.
This link will give you the chipset drivers:

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal20.cfm?recordid=3703&formid=3394&website=AcerPanAm.com&siteid=7117&words=all&keywords=&areaid=2

You should notice that this driver is for XP. It should still work, but there is currently no chipset support for Vista on your product. If the above drivers don't work, then you can download the BIOS update from here:

http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=17&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=3713735360

You will need to select your specific pc (Desktop, Aspire, Aspire T180), then click on the BIOS tab, download and install.

Hope that works

No sound on computer acer aspire vista home premium

Two possibilities here:

either the drivers were never installed in the first place but I take it from your comment that it most likely was working. If it never worked then try installing the correct drivers

secondly, the built in audio card has failed. If this is the case then you will need to install a PCI audio card as a replacement

Missing Vista home basic product number

Acer gives you the option to create your own cd's. Click the start button & go to all programs. Look through the programs installed. Someting like DVD pro. or nero. There is a program in there so you can creat your own set of restore cd's. The reason your PC is so slow is because Acer loaded the system up with a ton a junk you'll never use. (Can always return it). I would befor the warranty runs out.........

Good Luck!
